Antigua and Barbuda Prepares for New Police Commissioner

The government has assured the public that the transition to a new Commissioner of Police will be smooth, with no disruption to national security efforts.

Chief of Staff in the Prime Minister’s Office, Ambassador Lionel Hurst, stated, “The movement from one commissioner to another has always been seamless and has produced no threats to security in the process.”

Hurst emphasized that the selection process is guided by the Police Service Commission, with final approval from the Prime Minister, who consults the Cabinet on such appointments.

“We have some very competent persons who are being considered,” he said, reaffirming confidence in the force’s leadership.

Outgoing Commissioner Atlee Rodney has served in the police force for over four decades, and his successor is expected to maintain stability in law enforcement operations.

  1. More patrols, better training, and stronger laws. That’s what we need from the new commissioner! I said what i said!!!!!!!!

  2. Commissioner Rodney is quickly slipping out of a job that had become a burden. We now know he is moving in to an opportunity and role that will take him out of the public eye.
He is a Christian man with a quiet demeanor, who was placed in many uncomfortable positions to carry out the dirty deeds of the political establishment. He has had enough.

As a Christian he knows the tear-gassing of demonstrators was an ungodly thing to do.

The straw that broke the camels back for him, was the Riot Police facing down peacefully demonstrators on Barbuda; followed by the flooding of Barbuda with police to protect Gaston father in law illegally fencing up Barbudan farming and grazing land lands.

To appease Barbudans about the farming land and grazing land they are trying to thief; there is talk about turning the coconut grove in Barbuda into farming land.
Given The Cabinet which Gaston rules with an iron fist, has to give approval after the Police Commission; and Gaston has to give final approval.

It’s only the naive will continue to think the separation of the branches of government will mean the new Police Commissioner will not a political decision.
The new Commissioner will carry out Gaston’s bidding. There will never be one who says I’m leaving due to political interference.
    Gods speed! Commissioner Rodney

  3. Antiguans will only be pleased with this recruitment if the newly appointed Police Commissioner addresses these 10 important matters:

    1), Night-time police patrols

2), Reassuring community liaisons that encompasses all around the country

    3), More local foot patrols

4), A Police Commissioner that addresses our concerns when there are major incidents

5), Also, a major Police Academy recruitment push

6), Push Prime Minister Browne for more funding for crime fighting equipment, vehicles and decent uniforms

7), Reassure our women that they will be protected from predatory males

    8) Visit more schools to speak to our youth about the downsides about following a life of crime

9), Create a Police Task Force (PTF) to better secure our porous borders

10), The new Police Commissioner must have a strong (preferably a military or FUGLEMAN background) in resolving serious crimes and misdemeanours

All the above makes so much common sense to the concerned citizens of Antigua & Barbuda, but unfortunately with a NOCUOUS Prime Minister involved with this important appointment, what chance have we got, when we all know that this will be more of a political appointment than one that benefits the country as a whole

  4. Crime Antigua/Barbuda a Social Media blog has compiled a list of UNSOLVED MURDERS, and MISSING PERSONS in Antigua and the lists are overwhelming for such a small population.
The next COP – Comissioner of Police needs a Cold Case Force within the RPFAB just to even put a scratch to these COLD CASES.

It’s as if [one] do get away with MURDAH INNAH ANTIGUA!

  5. The police job in Antigua and Barbuda is to keep the people in line and attend ceremonies.
Do we know who is Chief of Detectives? What do we know of the various Police squads, other than the uniform they wear and the rods some carry?
We may have alot of beaches but It ain’t like it is on the Chesapeake Bay

Even though it’s Social Media blog that has compiled a list of UNSOLVED MURDERS, and MISSING PERSONS; “One Nation Concert” is more important than Nigel Christian kidnapping and murder, which is forgotten.
The motivation behind Asot Micheal’s murder is unknown forgotten.

When murders are judicial killings they are sensationalized for 15 days
and then disappears from the public consciousness.

Kidnapping and murder of little consequence. It’s more like melee. We still indulge in the West African tradition.
The police is there to keep the political agitators in check.
The public interest is not in the police. It’s in keeping up with Jones: Get the concrete box house; be seen riding in the latest SUV; send your kids to private school. Make that trip to NY, Miami, Disney, Toronto or the UK

Ah! And Carnival is around the corner.
    Antigua sweet! sweet!

  6. When they choosing the new police commissioner please and thank you ask the competent persons they going interview what they think about police brutality on elderly men and other citizens, if they going suspend all the police who brutalize the elderly man last week Sunday and one more question, do they think there is an increase in missing persons in Antigua and what they going do bout how police investigate them cases.

  7. Antigua News Room:If someone was an Ambassador. Does that title goes on into perpetuity? Max Hurst is not an Ambassador. He was an Ambassador some years ago.He is now Gaston Browne’s mouthpiece.

  8. If is one thing I know who ever is at the top of both armed forces must be inline with the government..They must not question much about what the government is doing just be happy with ur promotion to the top..

  9. There is few very important intersection in A&B..None of them have a working CCTV camera..All CCTV on the street are offline…They dont want them to be working. Is very easy to track vehicle movement around A&B just monitoring the most important intersection on the island..But seems nobody want them to be Online. DO you know how important is CCTV to solve crimes and prevent them to happens? When the community in al lvl realiza they can be caught on CCTV…Crap will reduce a lot
