Antigua and Barbuda is preparing for a change in leadership within the police force as Commissioner Atlee Rodney plans to step down.
Reports confirm that Rodney will be leaving his post to take on a new regional security role, with sources indicating that he is expected to relocate to Barbuda for the position.
Attorney General Sir Steadroy Benjamin has stated that an official announcement on Rodney’s successor will be made before the end of the day to facilitate a smooth transition within the force.
Further updates on this development will follow.

He should be investigated.
Is his resignation due to ‘dereliction of duty?’
Cutie should resign as well.
Shugy should be investigated too? (campaign funds boat purchase)
Pringle should be investigated too? (Dead Dog invoices)
Bowen should be investigated too?
Jackie, Lovell and Daniel 3 school buses should be investigated too?
Serpent should be investigated too? (1 pupa treeon 26 acres of FARMing fool land)
Why the sudden resignation? Was this planned, or is there an underlying issue forcing Atlee Rodney out?
The public deserves more details about his departure and new appointment.
What does this mean for crime-fighting efforts? Will the transition disrupt law enforcement operations?
Is there political interference? Some may speculate whether this change is politically motivated.
Why Barbuda? It’s unusual for a top security official to leave the main island for a role in Barbuda—what’s driving this move?
Was Rodney pushed out? Given the timing, was this truly voluntary, or was he pressured to leave?
Impact on police morale – How will the rank and file officers react to this leadership change?
Who is the successor? The government should ensure they appoint someone competent and free from political influence.
Is this linked to recent crime trends? Has Rodney’s leadership been criticized for rising crime rates?
Another secretive transition? The government has a pattern of making sudden leadership changes without proper explanation.
What exactly is the “top post in regional security”? What will Rodney’s new responsibilities be?
How will the public be informed about the transition? Will there be a formal handover?
Is this a promotion or a demotion? Some might see moving from a national role to a regional post as a step down.
Will he have influence over policing in Antigua from his new role? Or will he strictly be focused on Barbuda?
How soon will the new commissioner take office? Will there be a delay between Rodney’s departure and the new appointment?
Will this affect ongoing police investigations? Are there major cases that could be impacted by the transition?
What’s the criteria for selecting the new commissioner? Will it be based on merit or political connections?
I am sure he was forced to leave. I smell a rat. But it is good. Anywhere but ANU. Congrats Mr Comm.
It is time he completely end his career. It is time professionals are used. Those with the advance degree in related fields and vital experience. If ABLP promote anyone to the position of COP solely and mainly because they are in the worse police force for a number of years, this will further show how incompetent ABLP is.
You also will need to contact professionals to help in the selection of such COP. And that COP will be an expert with exceptional ability in related fields.
It is time for major and positive changes, I have yet to see any, especially in this field, by the ABLP.
The officers in the video needs to be fired and charged promptly, with appropriate and competent prosecution. You do not use that kind of force on an old man who provided practically 0 resistance but verbal. I would literally arrest from the AG down to the actual police officers for this.
You do not want me as no leader in Antigua, trust me. Every dime stolen or misappropriated or made through conflict of interest from your political leaders (current and past) would be seized and them arrested. Such corrupt and heartless place, Antigua.
I heard it was in Barbados as deputy head of the regional police forces. So is it a miss spelling? If not the only Job I can see him doing in Barbuda is Chief of Security for PLH.
Commissioner Rodney’s tenure has been marred by some really unforeseen events and no doubt he is choosing a position that is a lot more comfortable and rewarding. From the events surrounding Choksi to the numerous persons who disappeared locally and are yet to be found, to the number of police prosecutorial goofs that has resulted in convicts walking free recently, to the country’s rising crime, the police has been almost clueless and toothless with hints and actions that would bring about the needed action and solution that is required. Sometimes new and decisive leadership is required and this might be the opportune time for the Police Force even as there are grumbling, dissatisfaction and constant complaining within the ranks of the police force.
I congratulate Commissioner Rodney in his new position and also thank him for his service to the nation.
What will his new assignment be in Barbuda head of airport security?
FINALLY GOOD RIDDANCE
@my way of helping u till nar get the job. Nah matter all what u do and say. Be it alp or upp ya nah get um. Nah k how much degree u hab u nah get um because u is an ARROGANT PUMPUS STUCK UP FIRST CLASS JERK AND ASSHOLE!!!!
He’s going to Barbados not Barbuda!
Shouldn’t Mr Rodney make a statement on the actions of his officers who dealt with the elderly man? Is it proper protocol for the head of police to remain silent after seeing what transpired on that video? Are y’all so high and mighty that y’all don’t think you have to speak to what affects the people of this country? In America, someone in his position would have said something after viewing the circulating video! It’s funny how y’all like to imitate the US in the BAD shit but not the GOOD.
Police Commissioner Attlee Rodney should have stepped down 3-4 years ago when Antiguans were complaining about the tidal waves of crimes and misdemeanours.
I recall that the outcry was rather vociferous many a time, especially with gun crimes, home invasions on single females, and also, in recent times the utter silence on the demise of a well-known politician. He never really responded or addressed our major concerns; and I for one didn’t understand why?
Police recruitment was virtually nonexistent, and only took place just after the last Carnival – why so late?
The next Police Commissioner for Antigua & Barbuda must be fit for purpose (maybe a former army General or Fugleman/woman who can kick some a#s%).
There must be no more insignificant FOPDOODLES put in charge of crime fighting here.
Idiot blogger, you are insulting me pertaining to wanting/needing a job? I actually have so many extra jobs I am handing them out now. I can not even get rest during the week with the amount of immigration and other administrative law cases I currently have. Do you need a $2500 a week job? I suspect it will be this way for me for 4 years. Immigration and other government/administrative agencies are going through craziness and the public that seeks benefits/rights from them. I am over worked.
Plus I want to protect my reputation. ABLP can continue on its own. I am here to just help the public.
Here’s another prediction of a high profile Antiguan that will step down next (and all the signs are there with a young understudy being groomed by this government).
Many probably won’t be surprised if the Health Minister Molwyn ‘AstraZeneca’ Joseph leaves at some point before the next General Election.
Many other global Health Minister’s have quietly left their post since the Covid-19 fiasco.
Remember where you heard it first … 😉
When somebody picks up a job like yours and works under a corrupt or unethical leader, he has to make up his mind if he wants to stand on principle, or go along to get along. If he stands on principle, he will not last long.
Our friend here lasted very long. See that how you want.
If he goes along to get along, then he has to have a plan for an exit strategy. Clearly you had yours.
Non national. No great ties to Antigua. Time to go and enjoy the big house you built in your native land.
Or it appears, setting up himself with all those frequent absences, and lack of will to take crime seriously in the place.
Technically, that is dishonest. Taking pay but not performing on the job. Maybe there was reason. Anybody who found themselves working under such a degenerate regime would be forced to lie low and make their move at the right time. If you are told to jump, your answer will be how high.
Good luck in the new job. Hope you get somebody as your new boss who would not force you to compromise yourself again.
A little too late if you ask me. This guy cannot even find his shoes in the morning to show up to work, much less the many missing persons and murders/drug dealers in Antigua.
So good riddance. Maybe now the new person can bring some new insights into solving crimes in Antigua. He is a failure, and that’s why he’s leaving, because he also knows the other “total failures” in this ABLP regime, days are coming. They already killed Asot, and seem to be getting away with it, but keeping secrets is a very heavy task.
They said that they would announce the new commissioner yesterday. Today is a new today, waiting and listening.
This cuffy that lime with baba and servants to hadeed and Gaston is the chosen, the other guy that they can’t tell what to do will not be chosen, barbudans will get tear gas for land protest because PLH paying for the police boding in Barbuda and this cuffy will be in PLH and all them guys pocket.
