Antigua and Barbuda prepares for increase in air arrivals

Cabinet Notes: The Minister of Tourism made several forecasts about the number of passengers who are likely to enter Antigua and Barbuda for leisure.

One carrier anticipates that their line will bring 200,000 cruise passengers between June and December 2021.

Antigua will be required to establish a kind of bubble for disembarking cruise passengers, such that the vendors, shop owners, bus and taxi operators, workers at historic sites will all be vaccinated.

The same is expected of those who work at hotels—they will be required to be fully vaccinated in order to mix with co-workers and guests.

British Airways is planning to return to Antigua in full blast by having 4 flights each week, followed by 7 flights per week, and eventually increasing to 9 flights weekly. Virgin Atlantic will also increase its flights to the destination this year.

There is pent up demand for leisure travel, the Cabinet was told, and the passengers will return in large numbers as soon as the source-markets achieve herd immunity.

  1. BA flights are all dependent on traffic light system from U.K. which currently has Antigua in Amber, unless this becomes a Green light the U.K. government are not advising to travel to Antigua

  2. We look forward to this. EXPECT good things. Each endevouring, All Acheiveing as we work together to move our country forward.

  3. Does people have money 💰 for vacation? Remember a lot of people around the world were hit hard during this pandemic outbreak. Plenty people lost their jobs, financially bankrupt, absorbed all their savings, etc… It is going to be a long time before we can see a good profitable tourist sector comeback.

  4. The updated UK list today still has Antigua as amber. My wife and I are keeping a close eye on things as we are booked to make our 4th return visit for a holiday to your beautiful island in mid October. We’ve talked 4 friends in to making their first visit, so fingers crossed that Antigua becomes green listed very soon.
