Antigua and Barbuda National Honours 2024: Celebrating Exemplary Service

His Excellency, the Governor General Sir Rodney Williams, Grand Master of the Orders established by the National Honours Act No. 23 of 1998, presided over the Antigua and Barbuda National Honours Ceremony 2024.

After consultations with Prime Minister Hon. Gaston A. Browne and Leader of the Opposition Hon. Jamale Pringle, a distinguished group of individuals were honored for their exceptional contributions to national development, health care, education, and community service.

Samuel Aymer, Esquire

Samuel Aymer, Esquire received the title of Knight Grand Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of the Nation (KCN) for his outstanding service in national development and healthcare advancement. As the first Chief of Staff to the Office of the Prime Minister in 1995, Aymer played a pivotal role in coordinating recovery efforts after Hurricane Luis and established significant health initiatives, including the first haemodialysis unit in the nation.

Ronald Leslie Randall, Esquire

Ronald Leslie Randall, Esquire was honored as Knight Grand Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of the Nation (KCN) for his exceptional contributions to national development, particularly through his ownership of Blue Waters Hotel since 1984. His investments in tourism and philanthropy have greatly benefited the community, making a substantial impact on education and health initiatives.

Vernest Mack received the Grand Officer of the Most Illustrious Order of Merit (GOM) for her dedication to education and nation-building. With over 45 years of service in education, Mack has significantly influenced the teaching landscape in Antigua and Barbuda, advocating for literacy and community empowerment as a former Executive Officer and President of the Antigua and Barbuda Union of Teachers.

Catherine Chiddick was recognized as a Grand Officer of the Most Illustrious Order of Princely Heritage (GOH) for her outstanding contributions to education and community development. With over 50 years of service, she has nurtured students and promoted educational excellence through her leadership at Gray’s Crescent Primary School.

Dr. Cynthia Lucilla Agatha Crump Russell was awarded the title of Grand Officer of the Most Illustrious Order of Princely Heritage (GOH) for her exemplary service in education, community development, and the church. Her expertise in curriculum development and advocacy for educational quality has positively influenced many lives in Antigua and Barbuda over her 50-year career.

Elaine Ianthie Emelda Browne-Howson was named a Commander of the Most Precious Order of Princely Heritage (CH) for her exceptional service to community, church, school, and country. Browne-Howson has been a guiding force in the Seventh-Day Adventist Youth Ministries for over 40 years, significantly impacting youth development and community service through her leadership roles.

Gregory Colin Bailey, Esquire was honored as a Commander of the Most Precious Order of Princely Heritage (CH) for his outstanding contributions to community service and music. Known as “Causion,” Bailey has served as Antigua and Barbuda’s Reggae Ambassador for over 30 years, enriching the lives of many through his advocacy for community service and cultural promotion.

Miriam Samuel received the title of Commander of the Most Precious Order of Princely Heritage (CH) for her exemplary service in education and community development. With a teaching career spanning 40 years, Samuel has educated thousands of students while actively engaging in community initiatives and promoting environmental sustainability.

Everton Decousey Jacobs, Esquire was recognized as a Commander of the Most Precious Order of Princely Heritage (CH) for his contributions to sport, steelband, and culture in Antigua and Barbuda. Jacobs has co-founded the Invaders Mas Troupe and has earned respect as a cricket umpire, contributing significantly to the development of cultural and sporting initiatives in the nation.

Team Antigua Island Row Girls received the Institutional Award – The Most Precious Order of Princely Heritage – Gold for their outstanding humanitarian endeavors. This courageous quartet completed a historic row across the Pacific Ocean, raising awareness for women’s empowerment and showcasing their determination and resilience.

The National Honours Ceremony not only recognized the exemplary service of these individuals but also highlighted the spirit of dedication, resilience, and community that defines Antigua and Barbuda. Their contributions will continue to inspire future generations to strive for excellence in service to the nation.
