(Antigua and Barbuda National Gita Gardner elected as GRULAC representative on the KCI)

Antigua and Barbuda National Gita Gardner has been elected as Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC) representative on the Katowice Committee of Experts on the Impacts of the Implementation of Response Measures (KCI).

The KCI, an advisory body under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), plays a crucial role in providing technical support and guidance on the impacts of climate response measures. Its primary mission is to assist countries, especially developing nations, in assessing and addressing the implications of climate policies, ensuring that the transition to a low-carbon economy is fair, inclusive, and sustainable.

As a member of the KCI, Gardner will contribute to the committee’s efforts to help nations navigate the challenges of implementing climate policies, with a particular focus on the creation of quality jobs, workforce transitions, and economic diversification. These goals are vital for ensuring that countries, especially those with less economic resilience, can meet their climate commitments without sacrificing development progress or social equity.

Gardner currently leads the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Unit within the Department of Environment, in addition to serving as the Accredited Entity Focal Point to the Green Climate Fund, a financial mechanism under the UNFCCC established to assist developing countries in addressing climate change.

Gardner will serve a four-year term working alongside a diverse group of experts to continue advancing efforts for a just and sustainable global climate transition.
