Antigua and Barbuda Mission to the UN expresses gratitude on national effort to deliver successful 4th SIDS Conference

The Antigua and Barbuda Mission to the United Nations is proud to extend its heartfelt thanks to the generous and willing partners who played an instrumental role in the success of the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States, SIDS4.

Held at the American University of Antigua in St. George Antigua, from the 27th – 30th May 2024, the conference brought together leaders, experts, and stakeholders from across the globe to address the unique challenges and opportunities faced by small island developing states.

Primarily focused on addressing issues related to sustainable development, climate resilience, and economic growth, SIDS4 would not have been possible without the strong national effort of a number of esteemed partners and ministries of government.

“Your contributions have been vital in facilitating meaningful dialogue and actionable solutions for SIDS communities,” stated Antigua and Barbuda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Walton Webson.

Their generous support has enabled us to begin a truly transformative movement that will address the critical needs of small island developing states.”

Ambassador Webson further noted that the support of Antiguans and Barbudans played an essential role in guaranteeing the success of the conference, making SIDS4 a truly historic achievement for our small state.

“As we continue to build on the momentum generated by this conference, the Government of Antigua and Barbuda remains dedicated to fostering partnerships and implementing initiatives that support the sustainable development of island nations and the implementation of the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS (ABAS),” he stated.

“The contributions of our partners and volunteers have laid a solid foundation for progress, and we look forward to further opportunities to work together and garner their continued support in our collective journey towards a future filled with possibilities,” Ambassador Webson continued.

  1. I’m humbled and proud to have been a part of the seamless operation of the SID4 Conference.

The team on the ground headed by our country’s Chief Protocol Officer, Ms. Karen Cabrall must be given special praise as she led with a steady hand during some extremely challenging stages.

The commendations offered by the attendees in various capacities spoke volumes as it relates to the positive impact it impressed upon all. Some even shared that the over-delivered result was never their expectation. We’re now placed on the map for our hospitality.

We’re better for it and are now prepared for CHOGM 2026.
