Antigua and Barbuda looking to speed up processing times for arriving passengers

7

Cabinet Notes:

The Cabinet invited managers of the ABAA (Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority), the Immigration Department, and the I.T. specialists that manage the systems which allow for a smooth flow of passengers arriving and departing V.C. Bird International Airport.

The ability of the Immigration Department to deliver the full panoply of electronic services is not yet complete.

The Minister responsible for Aviation and the Minister responsible for Information/Technology have been collaborating to produce a system to ensure the successes of the e-system.

They have agreed to address:

Completing the Electronic E.D. card (that will remove the need for the passenger to fill in the data which appear on the printed version of the card).

Removing the face-to-face contact now required during the entry exercise.

Placing kiosks in the arrival lounge to satisfy inbound passengers.

Speeding-up the slower existing system for arriving and departing passengers, using the upgraded electronic system.

  1. And returning nationals should be able to just show their passport and Salk through. Custom will have to deal with them at the checking of baggage.

  2. For years now I have been wondering why you still have to fill a paper form and then the immigration will scan your passport and then make sure that what you write on the form is the same as what the scan produces. What do they do with all those forms after that? Especially for citizens, it should not matter what my address is, I can live anywhere in the country and move as I like. They only need to confirm that I am the passenger. But as usual, these places just ask for information that they dont need and do nothing with them.

Check out places like Switzerland, UAE.

  3. Why is it everything America does, we have to do it.

USA has the finance, infrastructure, science, security and maintenance programs to adequately do these things.

We on the other hand has not changed our constitution since 1981, we cannot maintain an optimal portable water system, roads cannot be maintained and the monkey see monkey do mentally continues.
