Antigua and Barbuda will observe Caribbean Mosquito Awareness Week from 12 to 16 May 2025, with a campaign led by the Central Board of Health (CBH) and the Vector Control Unit to reduce mosquito populations.

The focus will be on removing bromeliad plants, which breed mosquitoes that spread diseases like dengue, Zika, and chikungunya.

CBH will target government properties, including clinics, schools, and care homes, to begin removal efforts.

The Vector Control Unit will also distribute larvivorous fish to control mosquito larvae in stagnant water.

Under the theme “Stop Disease Transmission, Start Source Reduction,” the campaign will include media outreach, social media engagement, and community activities such as a “Bite-Free Garden Day” at Bolans Police Station and a “Fish Against Larvae Day.”

The initiative aims to raise awareness and implement sustainable mosquito control to improve public health.
