The “Beat the Heat” campaign, a collaboration between the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Social Transformation, and the Environment and UNICEF Eastern Caribbean, was launched in 2023 to protect children from heat-related illnesses in Antigua and Barbuda.
It aims to raise awareness of heat exhaustion and heat stroke symptoms and the importance of hydration in hot weather, addressing concerns over rising temperatures, especially for vulnerable children.
Educational posters are being distributed to schools nationwide to illustrate warning signs and preventive measures.
J’noure Smith-Kellman, from the Ministry of Health, is providing essential items to schools, including refillable water bottles, sun shades, and hand fans.
Early feedback from schools like Sir Luther Winter Preschool and St. John’s Lutheran Primary School has been positive, with students appreciating the practical solutions.
These students will receive essential items to support their well-being during the summer months.
The Ministry expresses gratitude to UNICEF Eastern Caribbean for their support, emphasizing a shared commitment to children’s health in the region.
