Antigua and Barbuda is set to take centre stage as the seventh stop in the opening leg of the King’s Baton Relay (KBR) ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The twin state, which is one of 14 Caribbean nations participating in the KBR, will host the Baton from Tuesday, April 22 to Sunday, April 27, 2025.

This groundbreaking initiative was officially launched on Commonwealth Day, March 10, 2025, at Buckingham Palace by His Majesty the King, Patron of Commonwealth Sport.

Each of the 74 participating nations and territories will receive their own uniquely crafted Baton for the first time in Commonwealth Games history, proudly designed and produced in Glasgow.

In a departure from previous museum-style designs, the 2026 Batons offer an innovative opportunity for customization, allowing each Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) to decorate their Batons to reflect their national identity, cultural heritage, and artistic vision.

Antigua and Barbuda’s baton design was conceptualized and created by renowned artist Heather Doram MFA, GCM.

On Tuesday 22nd April, will be the official welcoming ceremony under the patronage of His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams GCMG, KGN, following a Glow Parade from Country Pond to YMCA, starting at 7 pm.

Then on Wednesday 23rd April, the Baton Relay will visit the Adele School, School of the Deaf, Sunshine Home for Girls, Bowers Boys Training School and Fiennes Institute.

The excitement continues on Thursday when the baton will be on display at Heritage Quay before moving on to Barbuda the following day. The activities will culminate on Saturday 26th April, when the baton returns to Antigua for a Recycle Pick up initiative on Shell Beach.

  1. These former slave masters elongate themselves into our future in their neocolinial agenda, they just can’t leave, after all their wealth came from enslaving and murdering our ancestors, I wish someone would do something symbolic and take the baton and throw it in the sea in protest against slavery and reparations.
