The sale will soon be open to private individuals, including Antiguans, aligning with the government’s push for a unitary state.

The prime minister anticipates the policy to take effect within a few months, possibly by the end of the first quarter in 2024.

Browne believes land ownership in Barbuda will empower residents and contribute to wealth creation.

Despite opposition from BPM Leader Trevor Walker, who lost a legal battle against the sale in the country’s final appellate court, the government is proceeding with the Barbuda land registry.

The contentious issue of Barbudan land, fueled by the Paradise Found Act 2015, has been a decades-long debate in Antigua and Barbuda.

Despite protests, the central government is determined to move forward with its plans.

  1. This just shows how broke and desperate for money this Government is..

From the Alpha Nero, to the ABST, to the land sale in Barbuda, to the heavy fines on gun possession criminals, to charging residents fees for unkept properties..and the list goes on and on.

This wasteful, corrupt government, has missused, and stole the peoples money, and now they are broke and desperate.

Get rid of all these wet bags out of office, please, pretty please..

We need a bloody break from this mess.

    • At least Walker is Barbudan. I was always proud of the fact that we the people of Antigua/Barbuda, a majority Black Country, owned most of our lands for present and future generations. Now this person who is supposed to be the leader of the country, is hastily selling off the lands to the people VC Bird bought them from for the people. Gaston appears to be more consumed with greed and self enrichment than the wellbeing of the people.
“The sale will be open to private individuals, including Antiguans“
Who will be the private individuals”
Why is Gaston so obsessed with Barbuda lands? The lands won’t spoil. He is determined that when he leaves power, there will be nothing left for Barbudans and Antiguans and future generations. The people will be back in servitude. This man has to go. It may take a revolution, but this man must go. The people will have to rid the country of this dictator, who is determined to hold on to power by rigging elections.
When the Barbudans create a “ruckus” and take it to the millionaires, billionaires and thieving politicians taking their lands, we will see how many people will buy the multimillion dollar properties in Barbuda.

  2. Gaston Browne has sold himself to the devil by doing this against the wishes of the citizens of Barbuda who didn’t vote for him at the last General Election (or anytime come to think).

The Prime Minister Fast-tracked this move despite strong opposition.

It seems that if you do not agree with anything he suggests or puts forward, he’s coming for you.

Gaston Browne is bad-minded, bad mannered and worst of all has bad intentions for the AUTOCHTHONOUS and INDIGENOUS population of this great country.

    HE REALLY DISLIKES US …

    • Curious
Instead of trying to unite the people of Barbuda and Antigua, people like you sow division and hatred. What have Barbudans done to you? Gaston has started in Antigua and when he done with Barbuda he will finish off Antigua. Do you have children in Antigua?

  3. There are so many other models to follow as it pertains to Development…
And it’s not a bad thing to preserve the island as is.

  4. I wish Antigua and Barbuda could be like St. Kitts and Nevis or Trinidad and Tobago. They live in harmony with respect.
The average Antiguan is not interested in lands in Barbuda presently because of lack of opportunities there. Instead of the leader trading in Barbuda lands as a commodity to get rich, why doesn’t he bring industries to Barbuda so Antiguans can see opportunities and decide to move there. Land is a finite commodity you greedy soul. All you think about is wealth. You can’t take it with you and your children will live miserable lives. Ask Baby Doc.

  5. So why is this total BS. How many promises has Gaston made, which never materilized.

Legal validity restricts the ability of Gaston to enforce his will through legal coercion. Gaston, his Cabinet, including AG Cutie Benjamn, as well as the Solicitor General fully well knowns the Barbuda Local Government Act has to be followed. Any sale of Barbuda land with out the acknowlwgement and agreement of the Barbuda Council is illegal and unconstitutional.
The Barbuda Local Government Act (1976) Section 3. Part 1, 2 and 3 is entrenched in the Constitution.

Don’t be fooled by the Privy Council ruling against Trevor Walker and McKenzie Frank
The Trever Walker and McKenzie Frank “cause of action” was naive and foolish with regards to Paradise Found; and has created the environment for a lot of false announcements.

The legal case brought by Messrs. Walker and Frank that was lost at the Privy Council was ill conceived and poorly argued. It was a winnable case if it was brought by an entity who had standing.
These two individuals were not being deprived of land they individually owned. Individualy they were not deprived of something they owned. thats why the case was lost on “standing”. Neither of the two litigants owned the land. They pursued the case as individual Barbudans, and they did not own the land.

There are many issues here. Most of which the Antigua public is not aware of. Most of Barbuda is below sea level and under water as wet lands and is environmentallly protected, The remainder of the land is being used and occupied by Barbudans:so buyer be’ware.

Its unlikely there will be a Constitutional Amendment which eliminates The Barbuda Council approval authority to enable Gaston to sell land as he is supposing.

I supect that Gaston knows he is about to loose the case before the Privy Council. The illegaly built airstrip, and terminal building may never go into operation. He needs to keep the moral of his followers up.

  6. You got the lady who is high up there in the land registry parceling off land in Barbuda. Transferring it as she likes. Some land for her and lawyer husband, some for the PM and his wife, yes, some for the AG and his wife. OK, sell off the rest, we good. People need to start tracing the owners of the lands being transfered. Both in Antigua and Barbuda. Who’s brother, uncle or daughters name these lands are registered to.

  7. Its so unfortunate that Antigua and Barbuda does not have an independant news service that investigates and informs the public, especially when illigal activities are taking place by people in high places. Jouranlist dont just write news articles, they create history.

@ Antigua …….If what you have written is true, and I have no doubts about it; it should have been exposed by the media who considers themselves independant.
It is the media’s role to develop sources, verify information and craft articles which informs the public with the facts.

Interestingly, Gaston floats the idea of selling Barbuda land through his media units and the other media houses carries the article verbatum with no oppositing position such as the Barbuda councils position. No statement being made of the illegal and unconstitutional aspects of Gaston’s Barbuda idea.

What we have are echo chambers of Gaston Browne maskarading as news

    • Absolutely correct @ Casual Observer, and ABS are the biggest and loudest echo Chambers for the ABLP.

So many changes from top to bottom are required in Antigua & Barbuda, so that there’s real balance voices that MUST be heard.
