Antigua and Barbuda Government Probes Soaring Prices Amidst Sales Tax Hike

7

The Prices and Consumer Affairs Division is actively investigating complaints of unethical pricing practices in response to a 2 percent rise in the Antigua and Barbuda Sales Tax (ABST).

Trade Minister EP Chet Greene confirmed the probe and urged the public to let professionals conduct assessments, assuring strict measures against proven violations. Information Minister Melford Nicholas acknowledged public concerns about exorbitant price increases, exceeding the ABST rate, prompting government action.

The Prices and Consumers Affairs Division, led by Orrin Steele, is addressing the issue, and Minister Nicholas emphasized their commitment to preventing price gouging. The government, considering public welfare, has adjusted the basket of ABST-exempt items to mitigate the impact on vulnerable groups.

Minister Nicholas reassured that the government never intended the tax increase to harm society’s most vulnerable members and highlighted efforts to align ABST rates for visitors and residents, reducing the inflationary impact on the economically disadvantaged.

  1. Like they really care! All the financial dunce had to do was collect the missing 50%, but no, he burdens the poor to appease the rich. Who really knows the extent of the debts he has borrowed us into? These businesses have him by the cahones because of his greed, and thy laugh at him when he chats his $hit on the Rumshop.
How come the monstrosity remains on our beach at Long Bay when he said it would be removed? No credibility.
Its a Chinese proverb I believe: Greed will imprison us all. We shall see

      ”Like they really care!”

Spoken like a true champion. They don’t care about us/poor people. WICKED SET A PEOPLE.

  2. This government is a real joke and a so dem trupit.

Dem go haffu put EBREY thing on the ‘ABST exempt list/Basket of good’.

  3. Another failed experiment by the Gaston greedy labour party for teefing peoples money like the alpha Nero boat money. Now the poor peoples money Shame shame shame.

  4. Your Porkston Browne thanks you again for voting her in and she hopes you vote her in for another five years. She gave you a “free” concert thanks to the tax payers generous contributions. She will give you even more “free” and better concerts since she now has more funds at her disposal all thanks to the increased tax she just passed. Don’t worry about the huge pot holes in our roads or our water issues, those are not as important as the free concerts we are getting. With more tax hikes down the road, those will all be taken care of.

Porkston Browne knows we need to make Friars Hill Road look better and that’s why $400k was well spent to add royal palm trees along the road. To mitigate the issue of the royal palms causing any issues with the high tension electrical wires above them, she is spending Antigua’s tax dollars wisely to now bury the wires below ground. To help keep the economy stimulated, she is now paying the company to relocate the wires which is the reason she didn’t have the company do so in the 1st place. The Minister of Finance knows exactly what she’s doing and what’s best for our country.

Porkston Browne has now taken important agricultural lands at Dunbars and made it for housing. She knows what the people need and has their best interest at heart. Even a bank and a well known Middle Easterner are already in the process of owning some of those same lands if they don’t already own them. Another example of her looking into the future of our country. Don’t worry about the current building that houses the Ministry of Agriculture, that will be addressed in the very near future along with the St. John’s Police Station. She knows we no longer have to depend on local agriculture because her good solid Chinese friends will take are of her and our nation.

Porkston Browne continues to thank everyone who voted her in so she can continue to practice her creative self-enrichment scheme. When the going gets tough, she also gets going. A great example of that is her padding her constituency to make sure she won. She is so proud of that accomplishment she even publicly stated it. We need to follow her example to go and get what we want.

Porkston Browne thanks to all who voted for her and the confidence they had in her to better herself. She is from an area that’s known to be struggling and has now amassed quite the fortune. Now she can live very comfortably when she is done with politics. She has proven that anyone with the fortitude and drive can rise above where they are from and become someone big. Whatever it takes and by any means we all can do the same as she did.

To show her gratitude, she hands out well needed gifts when Christmas rolls around every year. As long as you keep voting her in, she will continue showering you with these gifts.

Your Porkson Browne thanks each and every one of you. Here’s to another five years of Porkston Browne. Your vote counts. Make it count well.

Quite funny, but 100% spot on!!!

This guy has raided Antigua with impunity, there is no stopping him, from being practically a pauper in opposition with his numerous bounce cheques. I hope he doesn’t die with his eyes opened or with his face turned to the west.
Are you taking all your ‘enrichment’ to the grave with you?
When death strikes us, you cannot stop it and it might be too late, so stop ya stealing.
