CABINET NOTES: The Cabinet discussed a possible date for the opening of the Cancer Centre.

The government’s valuator came to the conclusion that the Centre was worth approximately EC$6 to $9 million; the majority shareholder demanded EC$40 million dollars.

By way of eminent domain, the Parliament of Antigua and Barbuda acquired and took control of the Centre in early December 2023.

A refurbished Cancer Centre, provided with new and improved machines, will be operational within the first quarter of 2024, such that, those cancer patients who now travel abroad for radiation and other therapies will not be so inconvenienced.

  1. Remember when electioneering Gaston stated that water would be sufficient for all by December, 2022? We now in 2024 still with water problems? In this basis, Cancer Center might open by 2028.

  2. ABLP, more action less talk please. 40-odd worthless years of Birdism and Browneism and counting …

    AGAIN, LESS TALK!

  3. Why, would government take on this? We cannot maintain the hospital, machines don’t work, medications cannot be bought. So why burden the poor of this country to continue to give of our small pittance.

It would truly be good, but not wise at this time. Let private entities do this, where are all the investors, come on man, we are burdened enough.

  4. I would like to think that millions are collected annually for medical benefit. We know of this government’s mismanagement of everything. Why was the cancer center closed in the first place? One’s health is priority and with the explosion of cancers in the wake of the poisonous jabs, the need is dire.
We hear horror stories of MSJMC and of equipment and service failures, so this leaves me to wonder.
We can trust nothing this government spills.
When 405, 000 is spent on palm trees, and the hospital and clinics are on problems, clearly, the mismanagement runs far and wide.

    • @ Watching, check out the promotion and noises from the ABLP and the media brouhaha (especially from ABS) regarding Nigerian Airlines; Air Peace; the house building programme; promotion of the vaccination mandates and Antigua being an economic powerhouse – despite the contrary.

And guess what after all the hot air and bluster of saying that all the above 👆🏽 was beneficial?

      YEP, THAT’S CORRECT…UTTER SILENCE!

I wonder why that is? Hmmm! 🤔

  5. @Brixtonian, well said Bro.
There can be no doubt that our death rate has increased exponentially. The last statistics I saw suggested a 5 %to 6% death rate. With a population of 100,000, we’re talking 550 to 600 annually in normal circumstances.
What is it now? All the more reason for all medical facilities and services to be working at an optimum.

  6. Cancer centre refurbishment and NEW MACHINES/EQUIPMENT completed by March 30, this year, 2024???
Where is the millions of dollars needed for purchase of said equipment coming from?
Where will fully trained, experienced and SKILLED operators of said machines come from?
