SOURCE: SAFETY 4 SEA- Antigua & Barbuda has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Veer Group as part of its effort to become the Caribbean’s first fully decarbonized cargo port.

As stated, the agreement aims to support the deployment of ocean-going, zero-emission container ships. According to local news outlets, under the agreement the Antigua & Barbuda Port Authority will also begin developing a green fuels ecosystem at the port of St. John’s.

Furthermore, plans include the establishment of facilities for the production, storage and delivery of clean marine fuels, as well as infrastructure for ship bunkering and shore power, allowing vessels to plug in while docked to eliminate emissions during port stays.

As reported, these developments could position the port of St. John’s as a potential regional hub for refueling and energy supply for zero-emission shipping in the Caribbean.

  1. When will this feat be accomplished 2099? There’s no way this port is going to get rid of all the services offered which use fossil fuel. This is just another green fund initiative where the green fund GRANTS are used without significant benefits to show.

  3. What does this mean for the consumer?

Lay it out First of its kind is meaningless unless it has positive value for the consumer and longterm interest with regards to the economy.

Signing an MOU is meaningless if it has no measurable positive impact on Antigua and Barbuda people.

  4. This is more Telemaque nonsense. There is no way APUA will allow him to produce, generate and sell. If that happens then all hotels, businesses etc MUST be allowed to do the same. That will kill APUA electricity which now subsidies water. In any case, Telemaque, who is a loose cannon, I am sure, did not get the Cabinet approval and this agreement breeches current legislation. Telemaque again. More powerful than Melford. More powerful than Bongo Gassy.
