Antigua and Barbuda’s plan for a forensic laboratory, previously announced but not implemented, is now progressing, assures Public Safety Minister Sir Steadroy Benjamin. Recent discussions and the upcoming installation of equipment from China suggest that the facility will be operational in a few months. Sir Steadroy acknowledges initial limitations, emphasizing the longstanding need for a local lab to address delays in overseas evidence analysis. Mr. Minister, when will the country pass legislation so the police has access to fingerprints data collected on drivers license and voters ID to help to solve crimes? Too often, people’s property are broken into and all that happens is police come and dust for finger print, and then nothing. Opening a forensics lab is all good, but the police needs the tools, training and legislative and other support to make things happen.
Please tell us when it is operation. Eminent for your government could be twenty years from now. Do you have forensic personnel.
Believe it when you see it people.
