Source: Loop Sports: Antigua and Barbuda Falcons secured a six-wicket victory over Trinbago Knight Riders in the 20th match of the 2024 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on Thursday in Port of Spain, keeping their slim chances of progressing alive.
The Falcons, who had also beaten the Knight Riders earlier in the tournament, chased down a target of 135 in 19 overs.
After winning the toss and electing to field, Antigua and Barbuda’s disciplined bowling attack restricted the Knight Riders to 134-8, with Kieron Pollard top-scoring for the hosts with 47 off 37 balls. Tim David added 25 off 20, but the team struggled on a dewy night where run-scoring proved difficult.
Justin Greaves led the Falcons’ chase with a measured 46 off 48 deliveries, earning him Player of the Match honours. Greaves retired himself late in the innings to allow a power hitter to finish the job, a bold move that paid off. Hassan Khan contributed 36 off 20 in a vital cameo, while Imad Wasim guided the team over the line during a pivotal 19th over that saw Josh Little concede 18 runs. Fabian Allen completed the win with a nudge to midwicket.
“Winning at Queen’s Park Oval is special,” said Greaves. “We haven’t had a great season, but beating TKR twice is satisfying. To do it in Trinidad, at their fortress, feels good. We’ll take it one game at a time and see what happens.”
Despite the loss, the Knight Riders remain in second place in the six-team table with eight points, two behind leaders Barbados Royals. The Falcons, with this win, sit in fifth on six points.
Scores: Trinbago Knight Riders 134-8; Antigua and Barbuda Falcons 135-4 (19 overs).
Next match: Guyana Amazon Warriors vs St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Friday at 6:00 pm at Guyana National Stadium.
