Antigua and Barbuda Face New Year with Widespread Anxiety and Economic Challenges, Warns Opposition Leader Jamal Pringle

19

Opposition Leader Jamal Pringle expressed widespread anxiety among the citizens of Antigua and Barbuda as they enter the new year.

In his New Year address, Pringle highlighted the challenges faced in 2023, including high inflation, crime, and youth unemployment, along with mental illness, physical sickness, and death.

He emphasized unresolved issues from the past year, such as the failure of Antigua Airways, deceits by the Brown administration, and neglect of critical aspects like healthcare and infrastructure.

Predicting greater financial challenges in the new year due to increased taxes, Pringle criticized the Brown administration’s lack of measures to ease the economic strain, dismissing recycled promises.

He urged 2024 to be a year of reclaiming the nation and ensuring relief for all citizens, pledging the United Progressive Party’s commitment to providing a fair alternative for governance.

Pringle concluded by emphasizing the collective responsibility to pull Antigua and Barbuda back from moral and financial decline.

  1. Does Jamale Pringle really understands what He is talking about ? He is D GISEL Isaac puppet. He should take Hon. Gaston Browne advice and take University courses.

    • @ JP

We will trust 100% of Pringle rather 0% of Gaston, the liardest (if there is such a word) PM on God’s earth.

    • … And Gaston Browne should step away from governing Antigua & Barbuda and let someone that’s much more capable; and introduces honesty, integrity and transparency into our politics.

      WHAT SAY YOU @ JP?

  2. Quite a solid speech. It shows me that the Opposition is aware of the issues affecting poor people in this country.

Let us help the Opposition by rejecting the pie-in-the-sky promises and vote out this alp government the next time we get the opportunity.

This is the same Pringle who during the worst global crisis made clear he did not wish to be part of any committee to help plan a way forward. I will never forget that after the budget debate his running from the ABS interview. Clearly Pringle is scared of sunlight (scrutiny). RL then steps forward, to speak on behalf of the opposition, makes clear they heard nothing new in the budget presentation. They then proceeded to not debate because though claiming there was nothing new, they now argued they needed more time

    • @ tenman

A world record was made: the UPP is the only opposition party in Antigua to boyot the Parliamentary and Senate debates.

Only in Antigua. ABLP NEVER BOYCOTT Parliament, an amazing feat.

      • @raising taxes is the ..- Watch you change the goal post but its not surprising. Fact is ABLP never boycotted a budget debate. GB for one was always prepared to show the sham of what the UPP called a budget. Recall his power point slides showing how moneys were being wasted and his recommendations, though initially rebuffed. the UPP later taking up (airport loan source, CIP, procurement act), swallowing their own vomit. Must tell you that it was Browne’s performance during those times, along with VCB III pleadings (when he was campaigning for Max Fernandez) that caused me to see I was wasting time supporting UPP.

    • “… Clearly Pringle is scared of sunlight (scrutiny)”

@ tenman, you talk like Gaston Browne is a PARAGON OF VIRTUE when it comes to scrutiny.

You conveniently don’t mention YIDA; NAMCO and CIP, plus a raft of other issues that patriotic Antiguans want clarification on.

      You acolytes are devil’s incarnate.

YOU WELL AN’ KNOW WE’VE BEEN ASKING THE PM FOR “SUNLIGHT”, AS YOU PUT IT … AND YOU SEE PRINGLE AS THE COUNTRY’S PROBLEM?

UTTER TRIPE AND BULLDUST @ TENMAN

      • @Brix since when Yida became a government project. As far as Namco, their financial statements have been often shared. The very entities their hoid shares in like WIOC, State Insurances etc their financials are easily accessible. Try and find some better lies to peddle

        • Whitewashing as usual @ tenman. According to you, Gaston Browne has never done anything wrong in his 13 years of tenure.

IS THIS TRUE? ENLIGHTEN EVERYONE PLEASE …

  4. @tenman, what is it that has so embittered you that even when clear, common sense issues are placed on the table you resort to all kinds deflections? Sighting all kinds of stuff that nobody but minions like you care about.
We don’t care about UPP in 2004 to 2014, what they did or didn’t do. We are here, now, present tense. Our concerns are the abject failure of this government. How under them Antigua and Barbuda is being sold out, how ALP politicians hiding behind Shell companies continue to steal. We can start with your massa, the narcissistic, incompetent liar who had NOTHING prior to 2014 and now boast of being worth 30 million. Would you like to tell us, since you know so much, where the hell he go it from?
The country is dirty, the crime is scary, our clinics are in disrepair, forcing seniors to journey distances for service; the hospital is an absolute tragedy and the two time Cuban reject Tek Chet is destroying our prime Agricultural lands.
These are the issues, not blaming UPP, COVID-19 or whatever.

    • @Watching- You remind me of someone possessed. How much evil spirits you have in you to call yourself we? “We” the commenter i responded to went back in the past, hence why I set the record straight. According to your lieing tongue GB had nothing prior to 2014 yet he had a housing project near Bolans. There was also another hosuing project he completed in Payners where a few leaders of the opposition now live. Your demented self can’t argue based on facts, the demon(s)in you must always mouth off lies

    • @ .357

So if he’s wasted space then why bother? Just ignore the waste and bow down at the ‘tief’ who had nothing prior to 2014, bouncing cheques all over the place, driving a black old Cherokee jeep but is now rotten rich x 30. Don’t let Pringle worry you, he sleeps well at night. Cannot say the same for his opposite.
Comparing Pringle to Gaston is like cheese vs chalk, Honesty and Integrity vs Corruption and Odebrecht.

      • And where was Pringle who mingles with some very questionable people before politics? who now has apartments, multiple vehicles enough to buy for his side pieces and more tell us?

        • As you already know so much @ Pon di Corner, please expand and explain yourself and enlighten those of us who not understand wha’ you ah chat ’bout.

          Pretty please …

        • @ Pon di Corner

Thought you guys said he specialises in dead dog collection, something that is beneath the current MPs. Everyone knows Gaston’s financial history. He was stone dead broke but magically after 2014 he became a multi-millionaire, prove to us how?
Misery just likes company and hence scandalise Pringle’s name too.
