Citizens of Antigua and Barbuda will now have more options of COVID-19 vaccines to achieve herd immunity against coronavirus. Following the statement, Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced that country would receive a thousand doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine in the coming days under the COVAX Facility.

According to some statements, Moderna will be manufacturing millions of vaccine doses and making them available in the region of the Caribbean and Latin America.

While speaking on his weekly radio talk show, PM Browne said, “We think it’s important for us to expand the choice and to ensure that we have Moderna in stock.”

The government has ordered Moderna to provide over 10,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine in the first instance.

While producing vaccines, Moderna uses Messenger RNA (mRNA) technology. To complete the vaccination regime against COVID-19, there should be a gap of 3-4 weeks between the 1st and 2nd doses.

PM Gaston Browne highlighted that in the coming days, Antigua and Barbuda would have a sufficient number of vaccines like Moderna, Pfizer, Sino pharm, Sputnik V, AstraZeneca to speed up the vaccination drives across the island.

The government is seeking to acquire more doses of COVID-19 vaccines for giving booster shots to the group of vulnerable people within this month.

Antigua and Barbuda is trying to obtain a fully vaccinated population by the end of 2021.

The reports stated that Antigua and Barbuda had a total of 52,600 people fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus. The government targeted to have at least 60,000 persons vaccinated within the coming weeks.

The people have required a COVID-19 vaccine mandate to access public places like bars and schools.

  1. Why get all these vaccines and not the Cuban vaccine? Cuba is our Caribbean brothers and sisters. They support us with their doctors and nurses and offer us scholarships in different programs. Isn’t Caribbean people suppose to stick together and help one another? Mr. PM, why are you running from not taking the Cuban vaccine?

  2. Why is Gaston Browne standing while supposedly taking the Vaccine? I did get my 2 doses of the Vaccines while sitting. They would never give any to me while standing. Then had to sit an additional 15 minutes after each dose was given.

  3. It has recently been published that the Pfizer vaccine has produced the most anti-bodies to fight the Covid virus.
I hope the authorities intend to source this vaccine for the booster shot. The German Chancellor has taken the Pfizer vaccine after taking the AstraZeneca shot.
No one wants to be taking a vaccine that would wean in a short time. So I’m appealing to the government to provide the Pfizer for the booster.
