Antigua and Barbuda Dental Association new Executive Board

The Antigua and Barbuda Dental Association (ABDA) is proud to announce the election of its new Executive Board, marking a significant step forward in the organization’s growth and long-term sustainability.

The newly elected Executive Board comprises+:

Front row (left to right): Dr. Jessica Fernandez – Assistant Secretary; Dr. Kronskie Dickenson-Foster – Vice President; Dr. Deborah Akande – Continuing President; Dr. Derek Marshall – Immediate Past President; Dr. Afi Bello-Williams – Community Liaison Officer

Back row (left to right): Dr. Adonis Mansoor – Social Media Chair; Dr. Jahleel Allen – Early Career Dentist; Dr. Kamal Moursy – Treasurer; Dr. Danny Ghazalea – Secretary

In a progressive move, the newly elected leadership has been described as a “Legacy Board,” a term

coined by Treasurer Dr. Kamal Moursy. Notably, nearly one-third of the Board is composed of members under the age of 35, reflecting a deliberate effort to integrate emerging professionals into leadership roles.

This forward-thinking approach blends the energy and innovation of younger dentists with the experience and guidance of seasoned practitioners. The Association believes this model will help preserve

institutional knowledge, maintain strategic direction, and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and the wider community.

In support of this vision, the Association has introduced key constitutional updates to strengthen representation and community engagement. These include the addition of an Early Career Dentist

position, ensuring that the perspectives and concerns of younger members are actively represented at the leadership level, as well as a Community Liaison, who will help guide the Association’s outreach efforts and ensure responsiveness to the needs of the wider community.

Membership in the FDI World Dental Federation has brought a renewed sense of purpose and direction to the Association. Through this partnership, ABDA is aligning with international best practices,

participating in global discussions, and engaging in meaningful data-driven initiatives.

Continuing President, Dr. Deborah Akande, noted that involvement with the Federation has highlighted the critical importance of developing and empowering younger dentists within the profession.

“We regularly receive guidance, participate in virtual meetings, and develop suggested international initiatives. This exposure has reinforced our commitment to nurturing the next generation of dental leaders. Our new Board is just the beginning.”

The ABDA remains committed to advancing oral health, strengthening professional standards, and serving the people of Antigua and Barbuda.
