The Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force is set to enhance its operational capabilities with the introduction of ‘Alpha 2,’ a nine-seater aircraft, bolstering the ABDF’s air wing alongside ‘Alpha 1.’
These aircraft will play vital roles in medevac services, troop transportation, humanitarian disaster response, and search and rescue missions, as revealed by Lieutenant Colonel Alando Michael.
This addition offers greater flexibility, enabling simultaneous responses to multiple situations. For example, it allows the ABDF to address emergencies in St. Lucia while responding to a medevac call from Barbuda.
Additionally, these aircraft can serve as transportation for heads of government when commercial flights are unavailable. Notably, the air wing’s services extend beyond Antigua and Barbuda, benefiting the 11 other countries within the Regional Security System (RSS).
The RSS, established in the early 1980s, aims to ensure regional stability and security across its 12 member countries: Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis, Montserrat, Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Martinique, Guadeloupe, and Barbados, according to Lieutenant Colonel Michael.
