Antigua and Barbuda Customs Achieves Record $327 Million

14

The Antigua and Barbuda Customs and Excise Division has recorded a noteworthy financial milestone, reporting $327 million in revenue during the first ten months of the year—an impressive 9.11% increase from the same period last year.

The trajectory suggests a historic breakthrough, with government revenues from customs on track to surpass $400 million for the first time in history.

The surge is primarily attributed to a thriving construction sector, driving the importation of various building materials.

The head of the customs department, Boddu, recommends exploring reduced import taxes to enhance affordability for the public, emphasizing the need to continue collecting the Antigua and Barbuda Sales Tax (ABST).

This financial success underscores the ripple effect of the construction boom on overall economic performance.

  1. Boddu is a good man for recommending reduced import taxes to assist the public but Gaston will not do that. He will keep the import duties high and then increase the ABST by 2% as announced yesterday. No relief for the public.

You obviously do not understand economics. You obviously have never reached the next level.

      You poor (brain) malnourished minions.

  2. the surge beside building materials must also be attributed to the sky rocketting prices of imported goods due to high inflation(USA 4.5%2022, 8.2% 2012) and when 95% of what is consumed is imported it means the general population with less spending power is been overtax even with basic necessities including food and shelter in the form of housing. Collecting $400 milli0n at the port in difficult times is not progressive,it simply, means you are taxing us out of existence in a time when the rate of inflation is over 10%.Too much tax on highly inflated cost of goods is MURDER in a time of recession.

  5. So why is the country so broke? All this additional revenues on the books so why can’t artists get their prize money? Why can’t vendors get paid? Makes no sense at all!

  6. So why can’t they pay the Xing bank for the port loan? The dunce minister of finance continues to squeeze the poor to make these kinds of announcements.
Where the hell is all this money going ? Into the politicians pockets? This country is just rotten, led by arguably the most corrupt, incompetent clown ever.
All these record revenues and the people are record poor.

  7. If those figures are correct, just what it would be if all those puppets weren’t rubber stamping illegal concessions. I dare anyone to challenge me on that

  8. Where is the investigation Mr Knighted AG? Because from what I’m hearing here is that this man just admitted to a crime. $400 million and our town and roads look like this?
