
Antigua and Barbuda celebrated the Chinese New Year on Sunday, marking the Year of the Snake with cultural performances and a gathering of officials, residents, and members of the local Chinese community.
Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yanling expressed optimism for strengthened ties in 2024, highlighting achievements in bilateral cooperation. Governor General Sir Rodney Williams noted the symbolism of wisdom and transformation in the Year of the Snake, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to the One China Principle and commending China’s advancements in fields like Artificial Intelligence and the Belt and Road Initiative.
Education Minister Daryll Mathew, representing the Prime Minister, acknowledged China’s contributions to Antigua and Barbuda’s development, including key projects such as the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and Deep Water Harbour expansion. Performances by the Pandemonium Steel Orchestra, Calypsonian Lady Falcon, and students added to the vibrant celebrations.
