Antigua and Barbuda Cabinet Modernizes Rent Laws and Empowers Young Professionals with New Land Parcels

2

The Antiguan and Barbudan Cabinet approved an update to the outdated Rent Restriction Act from 1947.

This move comes in response to concerns from residents about rent rates and rent collection challenges.

The government seeks to establish fairness and efficiency in the rental sector, emphasizing the need for regulation despite the free market economy.

Consequently, they will establish a Rent Restriction Board.

Additionally, the Cabinet plans to create new land parcels in Dunbars, priced at $6 to $7 per square foot for residential and $13 per square foot for commercial use, benefiting young professionals.

Measures will be in place to prevent speculators and wealthier buyers from profiting.

  1. Corruption does not go away in its own.
Among the many ways to get rid of corruption is to prove it and expose it.
Now that the Government has announced the selling of land in Dunbars.
Test the process and document your experiences in applying for your plot.

  2. Now they need to tackle the house rent problems.

Where is the Rent Commissioner that was supposed to be installed so long ago? Landlords are pigging out on their tenants. It is a shame. Raising rent indiscriminately and refusing to fix infrastructure. And they have their contacts in the Consumers Department.

BTW, the Legal Aid Office should be done away with or investigated. Poor people don’t stand a chance with them. They are taking cases for the complainant and then taking cases for the people they complain against, then calling the complainant and saying they can’t represent them anymore because they do not represent both in the same office.

    WHAT A CRYING DIRTY SHAME!
