Antigua and Barbuda Cabinet Discusses By-Election Deadline and Supervisor of Elections Position

16

Pointe Xpress – The Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC), John Jarvis, and Supervisor of Elections (Ag.) Ian Hughes were invited to the Cabinet meeting.

Two main issues were addressed: determining the deadline for the by-election date following a member’s resignation from the St. Mary’s South constituency, and establishing the final day for new voter registration for the by-election.

The Cabinet agreed that the by-elections would take place no later than October 26, 2023, and new voter registration would close on July 31, 2023.

The date for the St. Mary’s South by-election was not finalized.

Additionally, the Cabinet confirmed that the position of Supervisor of Elections would be discussed in the next Parliament session.

  2. Not sorry for how Serpent is treating his constituency because they voted for him. He promised he would help them, got the vote and now say, they are on their own. Voting have consequences. right now there are lots of whaling and gnashing of teeth. Let’s use Noah’s Ark for example. Too late shall be the cry

  3. Small Business Pull Ups can only come out of the wood work during an election or bi-election. This is just downright pathetic!!!! Who makes their voting choice based on these exploits?

    • @ .
You chatting pure shit- people only campaign during an election, not when there isn’t one.

Why should there be a pull-up when it’s just one of the methods, which also helps to provide much needed business to small entities, in ABLP’s hard economic times.

    • “Small business pull-ups” was a SHAM and a SCAM. 2 concurls 1 toilet paper 🧻 and waiting for change from a half dead $20

  5. “…The behaviour of this person marvels me and THORUGHOUT MY WHOLE LIFE I HAVE NEVER MET A MORE EVIL, DECEITFUL and DISHONEST PERSON. I’ve never met a person like this person ALGERNON WATT. I’ve never met a person like that. It’s the most DISHONEST, DECEIFTUL PERSON I’ve ever met in my whole life” ~Wilmoth Daniel

  6. And what happens if the Prime Minister doesn’t agree with the ruling of the speaker and therefore doesn’t issue a writ of election? Can the PM be forced to do so? Just wonder.
I think we need to take this thing all the way to the highest court of the land. Too much is left unanswered. Was Mr. Simon properly nominated and should he have taken part in our election?

    • Sideline, tell Gaston not to call a bi-election because he is above the law and the constitution. Antigua is his to do as he pleases as a dictator would.

  7. The people of St George voted out ALP because of their years of neglect and failures to deliver for St George.

Members from Team Jonas took sledge hammer and wilfully demolished majority of street pipes in NewWinthropes causing further hardship to villagers who can not afford direct water to their homes.

Antiguans have been whaling and clattering their teeth for decades under this current administration.

UPP constituencies will experience hardship more so than other constituencies because ALP controls the distribution of grants for local development. The current ALP administration has perpetually shown a lack of care for the overall population, as demonstrated throughout the COVID period they had Antigua on lock down, they offered no assistance to the population.

The crisis that Antigua is experiencing is as a consequence of bad and corrupt ALP governance. The money they spent on taking Calvin Simon could have been used with improving essentials such as making water available to households, in addition tax payers money used for the PM and his team to attend the Coronation of the King could have been used to carry out essential road works across the island.

The PM and his team has banged on about making Antigua a Republican state and yet the PM and his team put status above principles and attended a dated Coronation , witnessing the crowning of a king that is part of the system that originally enslaved us at the expenses of Antigua and Barbuda who are struggling to make ends meet.

Antiguan and Barbudans need to shine their eyes and see what’s before them and stop shifting the blame.
