Antigua and Barbuda, a CARICOM member, backs Ghana’s candidate for Commonwealth Secretary General.
Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, is the sole contender to succeed Dame Patricia Scotland in October.
Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister, Gaston Browne, confirmed the endorsement during a CARICOM meeting.
Prime Minister Browne expressed support for Botchwey, noting the historical ties between Ghana and Antigua and Barbuda.
He pledged to enhance relations, including through increased air links and people-to-people exchanges.
Browne invited President Akufo-Addo to the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States in May 2024.
