Antigua: ABLP candidate accepts by-election defeat

Dwayne George has thanked residents of St Mary’s South, who voted for him during his failed attempt to be the constituency’s representative in Antigua and Barbuda’s House of Representatives, for their support in yesterday’s by-election.

George, who contested the seat on an Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) ticket, received 891 votes while incumbent MP Kelvin Simon received 1,065 votes to win the by-election.

Simon’s margin of victory was smaller than what he received in the January 18, 2023 General Election.

In a Facebook post, George, who is a former senator, said: “I respect and appreciate your decision.”

“My goal this morning is the same as it was yesterday morning, the development of our community. For over the last 20+ years and more so the last 80+ days as a candidate, it has been my privilege to work with this remarkable community, and I want you to know that my commitment remains as steadfast as ever. Today, I stand more determined than ever to continue the journey toward progress and prosperity for St Mary’s South.”

He thanked Prime Minister Gaston Browne and former St Mary’s South MP Samantha N. Marshall for support offered to him and his family during the campaign. ( LOOP)

Dwayne , judas ,dog , after the evil things u said about gaston clown here u are accepting the junby money , if u have a child or children I don’t know how they can respect u , and I can’t believe the laborites are going to be pleased with u bypassing them and moving to the top of the ranks , so sad .

    I would love to hear Samantha Marshall’s own take on this matter. She has been strangely quiet, or was she silenced by the PM?

    And now Dwayne has been rewarded for failure at St Mary’s South.

    Which begs the obvious question – why wasn’t Samantha rewarded by Gaston Browne for her failings in SMS as well?

    Hmmm!!! 🤔

  4. First he has to do the ethical thing and call and congratulate his opponent: WAS NOT DONE

    In any case, he is not the one to admit defeat. That is Gaston’s job. He did not run against Shugy. Gaston did.
