Anthony Smith to Attend ABLP Executive Meeting for the First Time as Minister of Agriculture

Agriculture Minister and All Saints West MP Anthony Smith is set to attend the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) executive meeting for the first time in his ministerial capacity. His upcoming appearance marks a significant step in his political alignment following his departure from the opposition United Progressive Party (UPP).

Speaking on Community Matters, Anthony Smith confirmed that he had been invited to the ABLP executive meeting, scheduled for Friday, in his capacity as Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Fisheries, and the Blue Economy. While he maintained that he remains an independent MP, his participation in the meeting underscores his growing ties with the ruling party.

“I have been officially invited to the executive meeting of the Labour Party in my capacity as Minister of Agriculture,” Smith said. “This will be my first time attending, and I look forward to engaging with the executive on matters that impact the agricultural sector and national development.”

Smith’s transition from the opposition to the government has been a contentious political shift. His resignation from the UPP and subsequent appointment as a minister under the ABLP administration was met with sharp criticism from opposition figures, who accused him of betraying the party. However, Smith has repeatedly defended his decision, arguing that it was made in the best interest of his constituents in All Saints West.

“I want to continue offering myself to serve the people of All Saints West and Antigua and Barbuda as a whole,” he stated. “My focus is on delivering results, not political drama.”

While Smith has not formally declared himself an ABLP candidate for the next general election, his increasing involvement with the party suggests a deeper political realignment. His attendance at the executive meeting is expected to fuel further speculation about his future within the ABLP.

  1. Anthony Smith ought to stop trying to fool Antiguan people, we all are aware that he is a Labourite long time ago. He is waxing convincingly in the mould of his masters and is waiting for the opertune time to announce his membership of the Antigua Labour Party, but who really cares, why now announcing your meeting with the Labour Party when the people already know, where you stand politically Mr Smith.
Your guilt and a heavy heart is what really bothering you, knowing that you had sold yourself to the Devil and that you are now one of his imps. It serve you better by keeping your business to yourself, why sharing your clandestine schemes with the public, we all know very well who you are.

  2. Thankfully not everyone in Antigua are fools. Tell.me who on earth believes that. It is being made public now. However only the Man above can convince me that he hasn’t been to one before.
Justin Somon you have to shoulder the blame for some of those happenings. You were the one who called for disciplining members who didn’t walk the Pringle line. When Ms Bradshaw didn’t do as good as was expected in that matter against Smith you took it over. What have you done since amidst all the information that you have gathered? So Anthony Smith is feeling emboldened now. He can openly look at those whose votes he betrayed and laugh in their face. What are you doing about the matter? When will it be filed in the court? When will Gaston be forced to call and by-election in that constituency? It all lies in your hands.
