Smith, the member of Parliament for All Saints West, announced his resignation late last evening, citing differences in vision and approach as his reasons for leaving the party.

During his swearing-in ceremony, it was noted that Smith will serve as an independent candidate in Parliament.

Governor General Sir Rodney Williams highlighted the historic nature of Smith’s appointment, urging him to be a good role model for young people and wishing him a successful term. Smith was joined by his family members and new colleagues from the ABLP side of the house.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced that Smith will hold the portfolio for the Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Fisheries, and the Blue Economy.

Browne expressed confidence in Smith’s abilities, stating, “I always felt he had some capacity. He was operating within a toxic environment that would stymie his growth and development.”

The Prime Minister wished Smith success and emphasized the importance of agriculture, noting that it needs energy and urgent attention. He thanked MP Greene for making the ministries available for Smith to take on.

Browne urged Smith to hit the ground running and make a significant contribution to these critical areas.

  1. JUDAS x JUDAS x JUDAS to the third power.

WHAT A SHAME AND DISGRACE ON THIS YOUNG MAN.

I HONESTLY THOUGHT HE HAD DIGNITY, CHARACTER AND MORALS. OBVIOUSLY I WAS SO WRONG.

  2. If Dwayne George was bad, this makes him look like Sunday school! What a thing! Sell your soul for money, position, prestige? A sad day indeed for Antigua and the 2000 voters of All Saints West.
Moral must be at an all time low.
We remember the things this boy said about ALP, now he’s one of them? He spoke of lack of transparency, accountability; of ALP being a party of thieves, corruption and a history of scandals. Now he joins the scourge.
    Another youth turned Judas. Wow

  3. I lived in Colorado for many years. While there,I voted for a Political Candidate. He won his Congressional Seat, soon after he switched Political Party in Congress.I was very upset about that.I believed he betrayed those of us who voted for him.For if he ran as a Candidate of that Party. He would not have won that seat.We the people voted him out the next go around. The same should happen to Anthony Smith.Next Election,he runs as a Candidate for the ABLP.VOTE HIM OUT. BEAT HIM AT THE BALLOT BOXES,GO OUT AND VOTE.

  4. Congrats to this young man. Our country yearns new and dynamic energy in government. He hails from a managerial background. So, he will do well in this new appointment.
The Labour Party recognizes talent when it sees it. He would have been a better chairman of the UPP because of leadership training, but it was stymied by the ones who didn’t see his value; or.knew it but chose not to harness it in any way.
One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
The Labour Party did this for good measure.

  6. Judas did not live to enjoy the 30 pieces of silver. It’s not what you do , it’s how you do it. Chandler and all them old prople, he took on the recent trip must be in disbelief.

  7. UPP is not ready for high-stake politics. They are always caught with their pants down. Personally I may also feel that these guys are really not to be trusted when they come over. But political wisdom is such that you cannot find candidates all around the place. So you have to just take those from the other parties and convert them in to your followers. See how DNA also lost almost all it’s candidates. Some to ABLP and some went back to the UPP where they came from. Just like Bruce Goodwin.
I wonder now how many more will make such a move and when will we see this happening

  8. Mr. Anthony Smith, Sir, Congratulations on your success and smart move, not just for the benefit in serving this nation in the capicity as a minister of Government, but more so development of ones self. My wish is to see you grow, propel yourself further and may you reach your fullest potential possible.
Remember, folks will talk, talk is cheap but opportunity is priceless my brother, best wishes and God bless, guide and keep you !

  9. That cannot be a bible he has in his is hand .. I don’t trust people who don’t love themselves and tell me, ‘I love you.’ … There is an African saying which is: Be careful when a naked person offers you a shirt.
    Maya Angelou..

  10. All y’all with ya Judas BS …Ohhh please…UPP is not the answer and Anthony realized it

  11. Fellow Antiguans, please make a note of what’s now taking place in our country.

The ABLP cannot deal with the economic woes, and suffering of its citizenry; the infrastructures are worse than ever; and power cuts are on the rise.

This Anthony Smith situation is just the distraction that Gaston Browne wants, and is hoping that the voting public will – again – be engrossed in this INTERIM nonsense.

Hopefully by next week, Antiguans will refocus on the current shortcomings of this government.

  12. LMFAO 🤣🤣🤣🤣 watch u UPP people crying in the comments is pure gold. Well lward ah now eh sweet. If it is one thing about Gaston he really know how to ruffle yall feathers 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I wonder who jumping from that sinking ship next🤣🤣🤣🤣.

  13. @ This world is a messed up place

UPP is not the answer, but the ABLP IS WHOM he has label as thieves, corrupt and liars; not me say that IT IS HIM, so go figure!
HE IS A DAM JUDAS AND IF U WANT JOIN HIM THEN WELCOME TO THE ABLP JUDAS CLUB

  14. The people that voted for him as a UPP candidate should be outraged. I’m not familiar with this TURNCOAT but you can’t swear on a Bible after what you have done. I have to wonder what the ABLP paid him to switch.

  15. @ RED TILL ME DEAD, but haven’t got the brains or wherewithal to recognise the bigger picture of having a one party state.

Looks like Gaston Browne wants this country to become more like the Republic of China 🇨🇳

Some of us can sell up and leave in a heartbeat, and then use our God given talents elsewhere where it’s much appreciated – but many Antiguans cannot.

A ONE PARTY STATE in Antigua & Barbuda will open up a whole can of worms THAT it will NEVER recover from.

Be careful what you wish for RED TILL YOU DEAD …
