Communications specialist, Angelica O’Donoghue, has been awarded the 2025 Woman of Wadadli Award for Excellence in Media by the Directorate of Gender Affairs and the Caribbean Union Bank. She was one of seventeen women awarded in various spheres of endeavour and their overall contributions to nation building.

The presentation was made on Saturday night at a ceremony held at the Sir John E St. Luce Conference Centre on the Factory Road. O’Donoghue who was surrounded by family and friends, described the occasion as ‘a deeply humbling and inspiring experience’

She observed, “Communication, in all its facets, has always been my passion—how we speak, listen, write, read, interpret, and present ourselves is one of the most powerful tools we possess.

“I am profoundly thankful to the Directorate of Gender Affairs and Caribbean Union Bank for recognizing this passion and awarding me the 2025 Woman of Wadadli Award for Excellence in Media and Communications and for my commitment to empowering women and girls.”

She added that kicking off Women’s History Month in such a meaningful way reminds her of the importance of lifting each other up. “To every girl and woman striving to make an impact—keep pushing, keep occupying spaces, and keep making your voices heard. As Laurel Thatcher Ulrich said, ‘Well-behaved women rarely make history’,” she remarked.

O’Donoghue is urging women and girls to ‘be bold, unapologetic, and thunderous in everything they do!’.

  1. Please forgive me. Probably she has been around for longer than I have been listening. Which media and where is she affiliated with. I have never heard that name in the media circles. Is it the reason why absolutely nothing about her career was said in the news story

  2. ……what about the other 16 exceptional and dedicated to their craft and vocation “Women”?
…..please, let’s reach above the lowest hanging fruit with your reporting……

  3. Most annoying person on social media? That’s what they mean by this?
The most biased in their unsolicited opinions to favour the ABLP?
A person who forsakes critical thinking and self- respect because they have to keep their mouth firmly latched to where the soup is running?
    Okay. Sounds like she’d qualify.
    Antigua is a joke.

  4. @Straight Shooter,
It’s like this. It’s Women History Month and we in Antigua are known for celebration every day and month that comes around.
Unfortunately we don’t have a month for our own history, but we celebrate any month and day that others fabricate for their social and political needs.

Ms. O’Donoghue in her acceptance speech has shown she gifted in adopting American jargons like
    “empowering women and girls.”
“keep pushing, keep occupying spaces, and keep making your voices heard”
‘be bold, unapologetic, and thunderous in everything they do”
Packaging those urban phases together is an art and requires talent and experience; and Ms. O’Donoghue has illustrated in her acceptance speech her gift of speech.
Good luck to you Ms. O’Donoghue, as you pursue your goals for females in our society; along the way recognize that 60 percent of girls you wish to inspire
are obese and desperately need help.

  5. Take notice she did not wear a green dress.
Colors matter and she knows it.

The leg is kicked out, like being on the red carpet.
She is being bold and unapologetic in occupying her space as she has advocated

  6. @ Chups, I attended the ceremony and I do believe I can testify to the “worthiness” of four of the recipients; Veronica Yearwood, Tavia Hunt, Latisha Browne and Nicoya Henry.
No one can have an issue of any kind with Veronica and Tavia when one considers the IMPACT they have had on the performing arts in Anu/Bda.
Latisha and Nicoya are young and exceptionally talented and in Latisha’s case passionately involved
in mentoring young females through her engagement on various community and educational platforms.
I can’t speak to the selection process but your point is noted…… However, congratulations to all the recipients and ” when deeds speak words are not necessary”

  7. @Mallum,
I find your post to be most interesting.

My question is beyond the ceremony; how is the entire community nurturing and supporting these talented young ladies you mentioned?
So many young talented people: girls and boys dry up like vines.
Let’s aim for global impact with the young talent in our communities.

  8. Congrats Angelica, I recall the Chronicle days. Those who know you know you give your all
