An audit of money spent on APUA’s unresolved water crisis is warranted, MP Simon says

REAL NEWS: An audit of the money spent by the Antigua Public Utilities Authority
(APUA) to address its water issues is warranted, says MP-Elect Kelvin “Shugy” Simon.

Reportedly, the Gaston Browne Administration has borrowed over $160 million to resolve the ongoing water crisis.

However, the regular distribution of pipe-borne water remains a challenge for the
Authority.

Therefore, in addition to a review of the Authority’s spending, Simon is encouraging all residents to demand public consultations on solutions to the crisis, echoing a proposal advanced by Leader of the Opposition Jamale Pringle.

The UPP has suggested that the Lower House appoint a bipartisan Select Committee that would convene public discussions with
officials from APUA.

“Out of this collaboration, greater transparency would emerge,” Simon says, “as Members of Parliament would have an opportunity
to discuss comprehensive solutions… .

“This is how you hold the government accountable,” he says.

The St. Mary’s South MP says the Party needs the support of the people to demand greater accountability from the Browne Administration as it pertains to the APUA situation.

Accordingly, he says, he is eagerly looking forward to his return to Parliament to take part in these important deliberations and to help identify the best solutions to improve water management.

In the meantime, the Government cannot solve the water problem simply by blaming others, Simon says.

And the recent removal of Esworth Martin, APUA’s former general manager – while Minister Melford Nicholas and the APUA Board remain in place – will not correct the issue, either, he adds.

Hence, Simon is challenging PM Browne to engage all stakeholders immediately, so they can work to find modern solutions to the crisis, and to stop making the matter a personal issue.

  1. This makes perfect sense. Gaston Browne has spent an inordinate amount of money on RO plants. So he is just going to abandon that approach and work with another water company without giving us a detailed account as to what happened and how this new approach will fix the problem.
It’s been 10 years of empty promises. They owe us as voters a proper explanation as to how all this money was spent. Failed experiment.

  2. Sometimes it makes no sense to rebut stupid people and just CHUPZZZZZZ. One word,
Arguing with stupid people tires you and they drag you down and beat you up in their gutter. Best solution is to stay quiet and let them look bright. Cause you do not want to offend them.

    • In other words @’From The Sideline hasn’t got a damn clue how to respond to legitimate questions about the overdue delays and implementation of our island-wide water supply from @ Southerner.

Go sidung and quiet yourself Sidey!

Gaston Browne and the ABLP have been negligent and missing in action (MIA) for over 2 terms now.

Gastonites and ABLP acolytes always reduce themselves to foolish soundbites instead of replying in kind. Simpletons!

The IQ of many of them is non-existent.

      FANTASISTS THE LOT OF THEM!

    • You are obviously getting a stroke from this suggestion, but why? You seem to be feeling pain for NERO. That’s the correct call because it’s our money. Maybe it doesn’t affect you as you are probably contributing very little as opposed to what you are pocketing. This rush to source water, in my estimation, says that NERO is at it once again. He outlined to the nation that the easiest way to THIEF money was through construction and we know how many RO Plants have been CONSTRUCTED and he recently announced that another is being planned. After forking out almost $200 mil, we are still complaining about water. Have we gotten value for money?

  3. The constitution has a clause that stipulates an annual audit be presented to parliament for ALL statuary boards. This of course, has not been done under this Gaston Browne, ALP administration. Why? What are they hiding?
There is a defunct auditor general who more than likely is in bed with the government.
Make no mistake about it, APUA did not get the $168 million dollars. APUA was only used as collateral because no reputable lending agency will do business with this greedy, corrupt government who has a habit of borrowing and not paying.
If there is to be an audit, we must get rid of this government. Then, uncover the depths of the corruption.

  4. We’ve asked for many public inquiries when the UPP was in office and it fell on deaf ears. Romantic Rhythms; Yasco Fence; airport runway; can’t park; buses; wadadli power plant etc and crickets.

    • … indigenous Antiguans have been asking for accountability, transparency and explanations for 3-4 decades @ ComingDown.

Are you nieve in political matters; or are new to ANR strap lines?

If anyone wants a description of an ABLP acolyte or Gastonite, you fit the perfectly!

    • Wow 😳 wow wow you are a wet puss I’m tired of the questions about Romantic rhythm a audited report was done it can be found in our ministry of finance I can verify ask the former junior minister finance on the question of the car park remember that it was a booth arrangement we paid for that fifteen million look at the city we need parking space but politics dum the guy with the fence he is with you all came out of the UPP and promoted a head of you stupid ass senseless prattle just give you all labourites according to Kobli Give Are You Shit Fu Nyam Are You Nyam Um

  5. Well said @Brixtonian. An annual audit, if done without prejudice, would uncover all and any skulduggery and corruption.
But,let’s take a look at @Comingdown’s offerings. The car park. I think the information was in the public domain. The airport runway had Lester Bird right in the heart of that scandal. Romantic Rhythms. As compared to Burna Boy? Yasco Fence? Come on! How lame are these. What about the African Saga where people perished illegally trying to enter the US using Antigua as a transshipment point? What about the illegal Antigua Airways flights? What about the Alpha Nero, costing taxpayers millions? Global bank,NAMCO, YIDA,WIECEZ,Land swap at Long Bay? These comparatively make your claims insignificant.
