This offence reportedly occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on January 15 and was reported to the Dockyard Police Station by the couple’s Piccadilly landlord.

He told officers that the 62-year-old woman and her 67-year-old husband had been robbed at gunpoint by two masked men.

Both tenants reportedly are from the United States and were staying at Limora House at Willoughby Bay.

Reports say the victims were on the patio drinking coffee, with the man working on his laptop, when two slim, dark-skinned males, carrying silver 9mm pistols, appeared out of nowhere.

Both were wearing dark-coloured clothing and black masks to
conceal their identity.

The bandits reportedly walked up on the couple, pointed their weapons at them, and asked, “Whey the money?”

Further reports are that the husband pointed out a bedroom upstairs, from which the bandits took US$2,000 and EC$3,000 in cash from his wife’s hand bag, and they ransacked the entire
room.

The perpetrators then proceeded downstairs, where they stole a Lenovo laptop valued at US$1,000.

They exited the house and then stole a black Wrangler jeep, R4939, that was parked in the driveway and fled.

The robbers apparently were able to gain entry into the property from an open gate on the northern side of the property.

  1. More attacks and robberies of tourists in recent times.

What on earth is it going to take for the Police Commissioner Attlee Rodney; Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin; and Prime Minister Gaston Browne to do something and reassure everyone that they are going to tackle this ongoing menace to society?

If it is lack of funding and resources – then say so.

If it is lack of manpower – then say do.

If the three of you aren’t up to the task of protecting the innocents of society – then say so.

WHY ARE THESE MICE HIDING AWAY?

    • How dare you call that man a mice. Don’t you see the calibre in size. Show some respect to sir snr el hefe Mr RAT.

    • @ BRIXTONIAN

This is the first I am in agreement with you apart from calling the authorities Mice. Brixtonian , you are above that…You can criticize but show respect for the Honourable Gentlemen.

  2. Unfortunately, this was only a matter of time (robbing tourists at gun point). Here lies the difference between St. Kitts crime and Antigua crime. St. Kitts crime is more gangs and drugs concentrated. It’s unlikely that you’re going to walk down the road and get robbed or shot at for your Rolex watch. Antigua crime concentrates on everyone who looks like they have more than $5, and that is far more scarier… They target the old, young, women (including raping them after), men, rich, poor, locals, visitors and tourists. Ain’t no way they’ll be able to pull this back if this continues for much longer, because hardened criminals are being made– they are getting bolder and have don’t care attitude. And, they are young, so that’ll be seasoned by the time they are 25 years, which is still very young… and that’s a huuuuge problem. Lord help us!

  3. The opportunity to commit crimes exists with no deterrence at all that even without knowing if it will be lucrative (victims have money on their person or in their homes) criminals in Antigua will commit the vicious crimes as mentioned here because many opportunities exist, it is likely they will not be apprehended, and no deterrence exist.

Police and prosecutors are not properly trained and without proper tools and without proper experts in vitally important related fields. (Voir Dire during trial).

you know the government does not mean well when such specialist offer themself for free and the government ignores for political revenge and just because they care nothing for the people.

  4. That $9K will be finished in no time….They will be back to square one hungry again…That’s how it goes when u don’t work for it…

  5. That’s what you get when you bring plane loads of crooks to our island. Now they are afraid of them and don’t know how to control the crime. They’re teaching the young men how to be seasoned criminals.

    • Oh come on now. You don’t know who is behind these crimes. Stop the discrimination. Some of these criminals are locally born Antiguans who have never even travelled out. We have a problem here, and whether the crimes are from locals or not, we need it to stop. But just stop the discrimination.

  6. Please stop the bull crap. Some off you are tarnishing the good name of Antigua. These criminals must be attacked by the Police with force.Using force to defeat criminal forces would be damn appropriate.

  7. I was robbed at Gunpoint maybe by the same indiduals. Slim, young, the same gun… and I was very disaponted how it was hundeled by the police….

  8. Antigua is not safe anymore …..in town locals are not safe….dont you think TOURIST will be lucky…….need more safety

  9. Considering Antigua relies on tourism for it’s general income, it won’t be long until the world media starts to report these incidents, and the people stop coming. Antigua hasn’t moved forward for years. Technology has been around to try and bring Antigua forward, but yet corruption and a backward attitude keeps the country living in the past. The people in charge, only know how to take from their own people, so nothing will change going forward. It’s a real shame that such a beautiful place, is heading for total misery.

Paradise isn’t paradise once people start to worry about being robbed or murdered!

    • And hopefully @ My Island, Antigua’s Tourism Minister Charles ‘Max’ Fernández is having some very strong words on this important and urgent matter with Prime Minister Gaston Browne.

We are all so disappointed with our incumbent politicians; and it’s not to say that they were not forewarned by many Antiguans, who were already on the forefront of the rising crime wave.

This awful situation should have been nipped in the bud around 12-18 months ago.

And BTW @ TUNA, it is the CRIMINALS that is tarnishing the good name of this country, and not the commentators on these ANR threads.

You’d do well to remember this … and place the blame where it squarely lies!

    • Please stop. Stop the discrimination. Many of these criminal are local Antiguans. Come on now, stop it. Whether they are local born or not, we need it to stop.

  10. This incident is of no concern to The Prime Minister and his Cabinet
I think beyond these pages there is not much to be of any significance to the public.
Recently the Commissioner of Police met with Cabinet Ministers and gave a glowing report. The only item that seemed of concern was as he said a slight increase in vehicular fatalities, while patting themselves on the back on the confiscation of illegal firearms.
    https://antiguanewsroom.com/top-cop-says-70-illegal-guns-seized-by-antigua-police-in-2023/
Most of the report given to Cabinet and the media was a demonstration of a Commissioner who is not up to the law enforcement challenges facing Antigua and Barbuda
What ever is causing the GOAB in ability to address and curtail serious crime; be it distraction, ignorance or benign incompetence on the part of all involved.
I keep telling myself this can’t be true.
What is going on in the heads of the people who support this nonsense.
I waited for the outrage among the commentators here. There was nothing.
Subsequently ANR sliced it and diced the Cabinet Report into news items with limited commentary.
    This site will get worse.

  11. @TUNA
How can an organized criminal enterprise attack unorganized criminal elements? The Enterprise Unit responsible for law enforcement is given limited training, outmoded tools and equally stupendous policies that has not been decolonized.

But most importantly keep in mind the benefits votes and the Youth Votes are necessary to ensure that The Organized Criminal Element stays in power.

The unorganized criminal elements maybe lazy and semi-illiterate as they roam the streets and prowl at night taking advantage of the opportunities they are handed.

They are sufficiently aware of their political value; and they are equally aware of the pervasive incompetence among the Organized Criminal Enterprise
