American Airlines Scheduled To Return To Antigua On June 4 – Colin James

Chief Executive Officer of the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority Colin James has said that American Airlines has scheduled flights to Antigua beginning June 4, 2020.

All airlines were forced to suspend their flights into the destination when borders closed in April.

James told Monday’s tourism meeting on ‘Reopening Antigua and Barbuda For Tourism’ that American Airlines will be among the first international carriers to return.

“With regards to our opening, American Airlines, first airline indicating that they will be coming back on the fourth of June, that will be a daily flight from Miami,” James told the virtual meeting.

James said the carrier won’t be coming from other cities just yet.

“AA has indicated that they do not have schedules yet for New York and Charlotte, those will most likely be later in July. And as New York is still a hot spot for COVID -19 cases, it would be one of the last cities that we would actually open up,” he said.

No date has been announced for reopening of the airport but officials are already preparing for when it happens.

Visitors to the twin-island state may have to undergo a COVID-19 test at least 48 hours before boarding the flight among other proposed measures.

No date has been announced for the resumption of Canadian and European flights. It is expected that regional flights will also resume in early June.

  1. I know we will resume flights at some point but it makes me queasy to think about it as it is inevitable that someone will bring Covid back into Antigua again and we will be back to square one fighting the disease all over again. 12-18 months for a vaccine is a long time to try and stave off the virus with flights coming in daily. These are trying times…

  2. I for one would not be on any American Airlines or any other Airlines flights, coming into Antigua anytime soon.See you in the New Year,Antigua.Me nar travel anyway this year.

  3. Florida is also showing a high number of cases but their republican governor want the state open, to please his master in Washington. I hope they will not be importing any new case to antigua

    • @Cool Ruler: In Florida as in many other States. They are opening slowly.Even Italy where many persons died from the virus. They are opening slowly. What the heck being a Republican and or a Democrat has to do with that. You cannot keep the damn places shut for ever. You have to open the places slowly. Isn’t Antigua opening slowly. That is the way to go.There are many Nationals of Antigua and Barbuda.Who are stuck in the USA.They want to come back to their homes and sleep into their own beds.

  4. This is all good news. Safe protocols and best practices are being put in place to decrease the spread of covid. Economy globally is making strides to return to some form of normalcy. Once there is exposure, we develop antibodies to fight off infection of covid. The US and UK have tested for antibodies, showing thousands building immunities to it. We cannot shield the world forever. Antigua tourism working in conjunction with airlines and travel companies are doing a fantastic job at keeping people safe- both citizens of the island and travelers. We all need one another to thrive.
