Fit-again West Indies speedster Alzarri Joseph made an explosive return to competitive action but Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah struck rapid hundreds as Bangladesh indulged in a run-spree on the opening day of their two-day tour match against a Cricket West Indies President’s XI on Thursday.

The left-handed Tamim slammed a top score of 125 off 165 deliveries while Mahmudullah, a right-hander, stroked 102 from 111 balls, two innings that helped propelled the tourists race to a massive 403 for eight at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.

Joseph showed no signs of the stress fracture that kept him out of the game for nearly six months, spearheading the attack with four for 53.

In fact, it was his new-ball burst which reduced Bangladesh to 22 for three inside the first hour as he accounted for Litton Das (2), Mominul Haque (7), Nazmul Hossain (4) in quick succession.

However, Tamim led the revival, putting on 90 for the fourth wicket with Shakib-al-Hasan whose 67 who came from just 79 deliveries with 14 boundaries.

When Joseph returned to claim Shakib’s wicket, Tamim combined with Mahmudullah in a 165-run fifth wicket stand to further bolster the innings.

Tamim, attacking by nature, crunched 17 fours and four sixes while Mahmudullah counted 16 fours and a six.

Imrul Kayes struck 40 from 53 deliveries with seven fours and a six while Mehidy Hassan gathered 28 from 48 balls down the order.
