Prime Minister Gaston Browne

Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Gaston Browne has told public servants that all salaries and wages will be paid in full this week.

He made the announcement over the weekend even though he admitted that the “economy continues to struggle.”

Browne also denied that salaries and wages will be cut by any amount in light of the COVID-19 pandemic which has shrunk government revenues.

“We will be paying every cent due to public sector workers come next week and before the end of the month,” Browne said on Saturday.

He said “God has been good” and urged residents to remain optimistic and not to become pessimistic “like those who oppose us.”

Despite and expected reduction, Browne is hoping that Antigua & Barbuda will avoid major economic fall out “and grow the economy by the end of the year.”

According to Browne if the economy reopens by mid-June, in particular tourism , “we could be in a position to have minimal positive growth.

    • @MMMMM: Why would full salaries not be for this month? You cannot cut public servants salaries without prior notifications. The country is very low on cash.As a matter of fact.I am more liquid than the Government of Antigua and Barbuda.I also have a better credit rating than they do.And I am a full vessel.

  1. I will save this article for a few months down the road. Wow! The offshore bank came out of curfew, great the people CIP money a spend. NyamCo money next top dawg the people calling for their stimulus.
“Oh what a tangle web we weave when first we practice to deceive”. I had to laugh when I heard the infantile saying his salary is going to buy food for the hungry ALP supporters. I watch some of them in my community giving out the ALP food packages and I just shake my head and say look how politicians have them, they going around no masks no gloves no concern for their own health. Yesterday I ask a friend a big ALP supporter what was in the package, he said chups, what is two sardines, two small mackerel, two mac and cheese, two ramen noodles. So here me that’s all. I had to laugh out loud. My question for MP Weston is that the ALP stimulus package?
