Antigua and Barbuda's Cabinet Reconvenes for First 2024 Meeting

CABINET NOTES:

The Cabinet invited to its meeting the Director, Permanent Secretary and the Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Works.

The Works Department is the first to begin the re-set of the Ministries now that new Ministers have been appointed additional subject areas.

It was decided that all contracts, both small and large, emanating from the Ministry of Works, will come before Cabinet for final approval in order to continue to achieve the transparency that the administration has been pursuing since 2014.

This review of contracts will also govern in the case of National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) and the Central Board of Health (CBH).

The Cabinet applauded the New Minister of Works and the Technical Team for addressing Lablahlie Street in Grays Farm/Green Bay.

The plan to resurface that street using concrete has been rapidly advanced.

Already, the cement, the steel, the aggregates and the machines necessary to complete the resurfacing are being moved in place to complete the resurfacing of that 200-plus yards of that strip of road within weeks.

The Minister of Works reported that the resurfacing of the Anchorage Road has been halted until such time as the new pipes delivering water have been installed, since the existing pipes are more than 60 years old.

  1. Looks like the PM will be controlling every ministry. So its best to just fire all the 8 ministers and allow the tap dag to be in control of all ministries because in effect this decision is tantamount to just that.
ABLP: the tap dag is making it pellucid that he does not trust anyone in his cabinet…not even his madam.

Dictatorship at it highest core of operation.

Someone please light a candle and try to find if there is but ONE normal and descent person in the ABLP party. Will anyone be found ? I searched high, low, far and wide….yet none is to be found.
    Heck, we are doomed.

Corruption is the norm. Evil is the game. Desperation is at center stage.

    Antigua: your are doomed.

    HELP ! HELP ! HELP

    • AT YA MARK GET SET GO…. AND MARIA BROWNE IS OUT OF THE BLOCKS ….. SHE’S LIVING UP TO THEIR PROMISES. ……. PROMISE MADE PROMISE KEPT! AIN’T NO ONE STOPPING THIS ABLP TRAIN….. IT WILL BE MORE WORK DONE WITH LESS MINISTERS.

  2. I think you guys and girl should have created a position for Pringle in the ministry of Public Works to scrutinize all the contracts. That way he can make sure the good lady is not giving contracts to herself or family and friends.

  3. While I agree that the P.M. should allow the Ministers to run their ministries, as an overseer of all ministries, he should have some say. The Ministers should be allowed to use their initiatives and build their independence with confidence for their prospective ministries.

  4. ABLP is definitely a transparent govt. Unlike UPP who gave contracts to build gutters and the nation received poorly constructed gutters causing St. John’s to flood constantly whenever there is a slight downpour

  5. How bringing contracts before cabinet enhances transparency? If anything it shows that the political directorate is blatantly interfering with transparency. The procurement system should always far removed from the executive for the exact reason you are claiming bringing them to cabinet for. We need more technical oversight, not political interfering. Why pay people to do a job then turn around and remove the ability to do the said job. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS.

    • @derek ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.
Procurement procedures need to be publicized and free from political interference.

      Never happening under this PM.
