Alfa Nero Funds Disbursement Delayed Pending Court Decision

10

Eric Schmidt, the former Google executive, has been announced as the new owner of the Alfa Nero superyacht after bidding the highest amount of $67.6 million.

However, Schmidt’s attorneys have advised him to hold off on paying the purchase amount to the Antiguan and Barbudan government for a few days.

This delay is due to a pending judicial decision related to an injunction sought by a Russian citizen aiming to block the sale.

The court is expected to deliver its judgment soon.

The luxurious yacht, which had been abandoned for over a year, was seized by the government and put up for auction.

  1. So this has become news. Give me a break..give me an advil.
This is was expected to happen without saying it.

Who in their right mind would want to pay for a product that is currently in legal ramblings. Even more so to dish out millions of dollars when uncertainty lingers in the air.
The government should have known that this would be the result.
If indeed, the government did not foresee this coming; then definitely they need to pack up their brownie bundles and run outta parliament or the people should chase those foolish criminals outta town forthwith.

  2. Antigua’s main industry is court cases. That seems to be the only thing we import or export. Always find ourselves in the middle of some legal challenge.

  3. Part of the problem is the Government is culpable for many of the reasons they put forward to justify a quick sale.
UPP has failed to make the public aware of the specious claims made by the government; and should bear some of the blame.
While the government tourism department talks about the yatchies and how import they are to the economy; the Government has not made provision for super yachts to pump their waste into landslide containers.
To claim the Alfa Nero as an environmental hazard for its discharging waste into the Falmouth Harbour should be like eggs on their face.
The Government may eventually prevail, all they need to do as the lawsuits wind their way through the court is have Mr. Schmidt’s Attorney place the money in their escrow account. Da…. the UWI geniuses are all confused as to the proper steps, likewise their UPP counterparts.

  4. Eric Schmidt: Ya know what……..I think imma jus go to the factory and buy me a brand new superyacht..Soooo thanks but no thanks Antigua and good luck with selling that headache…

  5. Gaston: DAMMIT!!!! Atleast $10M was supposed to go in my pocket….SIGH!!!…..A ma bex noo BEEEP!!!

  6. should walk with their heads down. We can’t feel good about our government’s policy making decisions.

  7. The sale was completed today by the courts. Now Mr. Brown, pay your bills B4 you put money in all your pockets
All back pay to gov workers, all parishioners made hole, pay blue ocean for dock work, pay nurses, garbage pick up people, liat people, all the bills you have neglected to pay. Time to step up and e the person you say you are.
