AL94 expected to move over the islands this morning with rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds

1

Met Office: Lightning already visible to the north and east of Antigua. Showers have begun across portions of Antigua and will continue.

Rainfall is expected to be heavy at times with thunderstorms and strong gusty winds.

We will continue to monitor the progress of what’s left of AL94 as it traverses the Islands this morning.

Forecaster Dale Destin said: #TropicalDisturbance_AL94 has grown in size; however, the chance of forming into a #TropicalCyclone remains very low, 20%. The system should clear most of the area in a few hours.

If you have not heard thunder in 30 minutes or more, it is safe to go outside, the opposite is true.

Disturbance 1: 20% Chance of Cyclone Formation in 48 Hours
As of 2:00 AM EDT Fri Sep 13 2024…

Near the Northern Leeward Islands (AL94):

Satellite-derived wind data from several hours ago indicate that a small area of low pressure located less than one hundred miles east of the northern Leeward Islands has degenerated into a surface trough.

Environmental conditions, including the proximity of dry air, do not favor development of this system while it moves west-northwestward at about 15 mph.

Regardless of development, locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds are possible across the northern Leeward Islands today.

  • Formation chance through 48 hours…low…20 percent.
  • Formation chance through 7 days…low…20 percent.
