The leadership in Antigua and Barbuda’s airline community and major stakeholders gathered at the VC Bird International Airport on Wednesday morning for a debriefing to review a simulation exercise the day before.

Tuesday’s mock exercise was geared at testing the various protocols in place at the airport to ensure the safety of passengers and airport staff from any spread of Covid 19 with the resumption of regular commercial flights into Antigua and Barbuda.

Participation in the exercise was secured from the diverse range of operators at the airport. It was organized and planned by the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority and coordinated by the National Emergency Operations Centre with critical support and guidance from the Ministry of Health.

“The exercise was indeed timely and accomplished exactly what it set out to do,” stated Director at the NEOC Mr. Philmore Mullin.
“It was supposed to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the operations and the recommendations coming out from our observations and following the debriefing will spell these out,” Mr. Mullin explained.

Wednesday’s debriefing heard from leading experts in health and aviation and senior representatives from several entities that play a major role in the operations at the VC Bird International. CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority Miss Euletta Francis appealed for the cooperation being displayed between all the various players to continue.

“We’re all in this together. Let’s keep the collaboration between each other going. It is only together that we can guarantee the very best results from our hard working efforts,” she told the debriefing.

The first commercial flight since the June 1st reopening of Antigua and Barbuda’s borders will arrive on Thursday night and all COVID 19 protocols will be in effect.
