Air Peace Secures Permits for Europe and UK Flights

BNN.NETWORK: In the competitive world of aviation, Nigerian airline Air Peace has made a significant stride.
The carrier, under the guidance of Chairman and CEO Allen Onyema, has obtained the coveted Foreign Carrier Operator Permit (FCOP) and Third Country Operator Permit (TCO-UK), enabling it to operate flights to Europe and the United Kingdom.
This credential was achieved after passing stringent safety audits, a testament to the airline’s unwavering commitment to passenger safety and operational excellence.

Opening Skies and Market Competition

This acquisition of permits not only symbolizes the airline’s adherence to international safety standards but also paves the way for Air Peace to compete in the international market.

Nigerian aviation has long been dominated by foreign carriers, but this breakthrough may mark the beginning of a shift in the balance of power.

It also underlines Nigeria’s potential to play a larger role in global aviation if its airlines can meet and maintain international standards.

Infrastructure Hurdles and Foreign Exchange Challenges

Despite the milestone, Onyema was quick to highlight the persistent challenges facing the industry in Nigeria.

He pointed out that the lack of transit facilities at Nigerian airports, specifically the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, hampers the competitiveness of Nigerian airlines.

He called for the development of airport infrastructure that matches global standards to support the growth of the industry.

Onyema also raised concerns about difficulties in accessing foreign exchange from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

In a stark illustration of the issue, he revealed that Air Peace had paid $14 million in naira to the CBN for aircraft maintenance, but the funds have not been made available for the past six months.

This has hindered the airline’s ability to return its aircraft currently undergoing maintenance overseas, impacting its operational capacity.

Air Peace: Resilient Amid Challenges

Despite these hurdles, the ethos of Air Peace is unwavering. The airline remains dedicated to providing safe and reliable air travel, even in the face of operational and bureaucratic challenges.

The acquisition of the FCOP and TCO-UK is a testament to this commitment and a signal that Air Peace is ready and willing to broaden its horizons.

As the airline prepares to expand its services to meet the growing demand in the Nigerian market, it sends a message of resilience and ambition.

It encapsulates the spirit of a nation striving to surmount its challenges and find its place in the global aviation industry.
