Agricultural Workshop To Teach Farmers How To Improve Their Earning Potential

2

An agricultural workshop starts today and runs until the 4th of February seeks to promote the education and training of farmers by teaching them innovative ways to use information, communication and technology (ICT) to improve their earning potential.

The workshop, starting at 9am at the Environment Division, will hold talks aimed at exchanging knowledge to understand ways in which farmers can use learning as a form of security to get more financial injection into the sector.

Education Specialist, Dr. Moses Tenwa, shares that farmers have low capital, and they cannot access credit, because the banks consider them to be risk investments.

This, in particular, is why Tenwa is on board this initiative and he plans to help educate farmers on how to integrate technology in their profession and learn new ways to understand changes in the behavior of the markets.

He revealed that the workshop will also feature the farmers giving updates on the progress they made in managing their agricultural products.

“A kind of reflection to hear the progress that has been made and the challenges so that we can then be able to plan how best to move forward, so that we can be able to meet the sustainable development goals.” Tenwa explained.

Tenwa further added that “we use learning as a way of overcoming challenges, and one of the innovations is that can we use learning; the farmers who have been trained and gained sufficient knowledge can use it as a bankable proposal to access credit from the banks.”

He said that farmers have been using this model in Asia and Tanzania and it has been working so far.

The Commonwealth of Learning Program has been working with the Ministry of Agriculture since 2017 to improve the agricultural product of the country.

It is promoting education and training by the use of ICT and open-distance learning.

The workshop will see all the stakeholders and financial institution as well as ministry officials

  1. This workshop is another example of the progressive policies of the People’s Government. Agriculture is an important part of turning this country into the powerhouse of the Caribbean, and we are now well on the way to that goal. Farmers are to be respected and held in high esteem. These men and woman should be encouraged and helped in every way possible. They are true patriots and they love this land. Many of them are leaders in the social justice arena, and speak Truth with dignity. God bless our farmers. You are appreciated. You have earned the respect of the Nation. Thank you.
