Attorney General and Public Safety Minister Sir Steadroy Benjamin has expressed confidence in Acting Police Commissioner Everton Jeffers, who is set to replace Atlee Rodney as the country’s top cop. Rodney will assume the role of Deputy Executive Director of the Regional Security System (RSS) on April 7.
In a state media interview, Benjamin described Jeffers as a disciplinarian with over 40 years of experience and a strong understanding of people. He highlighted Jeffers’ commitment to community policing, neighborhood watch programs, and fostering public involvement in law enforcement.
“He’s a good Christian-minded man, and I’m certain that with his experience, he will be able to bring people together as a unit,” Benjamin stated.
Jeffers’ confirmation as Police Commissioner is expected soon.

Another Commissioner, another promise. Hope he serious about fighting crime.
Jeffers no better than Rodney ALL A DEM WICKED ALIKE jeffers himself love fight down officer and very BIAS and all he does is hide behind his fake smile and play christian
Next time howabout forgetting seniority and seeking a younger, qualified, modern-policing specialist who actively engages in unbiased teamwork and professional development of junior officers.
A person who holds people equally accountable and is accountable themself.
A person who will have a clear critical eye, and if necessary push back on politicians for the betterment of the communities they serve.
Congrats, an appointment well deserved! Antiguans need to be in key positions for there to be progress. Most foreigners come to make a living and don’t have the love and well being of this country at heart. Their naval string is still buried back in their home land. I personally heard a Vincentian police say he is not fighting dangerous crime ’cause he don’t come to Antigua to die…
This appointment is a step in the right direction, we need all our key positions filled by ‘real’ Antiguans, it’s not just strategic, its esential for the country’s progress…
May he prosper and not allow the government to toss him up like eggs in a pan like they did all other commissioners
