A group of Africans, apparently scammed by one of their own, is desperate to re- cover their money.
Reports indicate that the man allegedly tricked a group of about twenty people into giving him money under the pretense that he would obtain airline tickets for them on a charter flight back to Africa.
After some time had passed, the man failed to provide the tickets or issue a refund, which roused the suspicion of his countrymen who began to suspect that they may have been duped.
The victims reported the man, whose address has been given as Dickenson Bay, to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda.
After an initial investigation, the fake business- man was arrested, however, he has not yet been charged by police.

This one doesn’t even care about his own pple. Everyone knows that the Africans we’re scammed and that’s why they’re stuck in Antigua — but he could care less about that, he sees them as gullible prey. Hopefully, after he makes restitution to his victims, he’s deported back to Africa.
Let’s see if the Antiguan government is going to turn a blind eye to foriegn scammers living in ANU.
Wicked make him get them people money back your own people your scammer they have it so hard right now and please advise them African there is cheaper houses her for rent they charging them people so much money
Soon from now there will be an African protest on this island, these people don’t play. That’s a new culture on Antigua there, will not be peaceful for too long.
A who that African man day be? The fat one or the medium build one whose name ends in O???? . Charge he and state the name. The little one will bring down the big one. If you can do that to your own people oooooooo what you wouldn’t do to me ooooooooo? Bless up Agriculture.
Lock him up. They always full of tricks.
Anything about the fake passports…..?
The worst and unforgivable way to profit is from the MISFORTUNES of others.
That, as my mother used to say, is a CURSE upon thineself
Now that was a really grimy thing to do knowing their circumstances.
Once ALP grant them residents status we will see more of these types of fraudulent scams. I do not understand
why the police has not brought him before the courts and prepare his deportation papers.
Antigua will experience difficulty with deporting him, Nigeria will not foot the bill for his deportation, so if he is faced with deportation it will be down to Antigua’s tax payers.
The best and only solution is for ALP is to stop pussy footing about and return them all back to Nigeria.
Integrating them into our society will become our worst nightmare, Antigua will experience fraudulent activities on a monumental level and the longer they are allowed to remain in Antigua the harder it will be to deport them. ALP, cut your losses and deport them now!! We have had enough of this fiasco.
It’s so sad to see Antiguans throwing stones at them telling them to go back home an these poor ppl been trying to go back to there an country now all there money gwaan it’s so sad to see they have been scam by there own tho.
If they weren’t scammed by the Antigua Labour Party, in the first instance, they would not have been here to be scammed by one of their own who probably learnt his trade right here.
BINGO!!!!!!
Yes people are scamming our African brothers sisters, lift right and center. Can you imagine in grays farm they are paying $50.00 per night. What people are doing is to charge them by the night per head instead of renting them the house. The government needs to step in and provide these people with housing. The government is responsible for them to be here in this condition. They are paying in Jennings $50.00 US per night. They are also being exploited by contractors. One contractor had two of them working and paid them 100.00 each for the week. Another worked on a garbage truck and was paid $80.00 EC for any entire week.
We need to allow them to get work permits and gain legal employment.
The Government needs to step in and provide these people with housing, you say. Is the Government stepping in to give hard working people in Antigua who have paid their taxes housing? We as a Nation need to get our priorities in proper order. The people of the Country comes in first and all others come in after. In Antigua we are so divided along Political Party lines. Is there a wonder why things are so chaotic in the place.
Go ahead and charge him so that his name can be publish. A scammer will scam anybody. Make his name public so that others can be aware of him. Someone say that’s the second scam. That is not true. Now the scam was reported and he is arrested. He need to be charged and make his name public.
There should not be working in the first place, earning $80 per week is probably more than he would earn in Nigeria/Cameroon.
Antiguans should not be complacent about this situation, ALP allowed them in the country on false pretense, and they should not become the concerns for the population of Antigua.
ALP should charter a plane and put them all on the plane and return them to Nigeria. ALP is dragging its feet because they know that will encounter difficulties with returning them, which would become politically explosive. As much as I would like to see them gone, it won’t be easy to accomplished without causing a storm. In the meantime, we will have to put up with their crooked behaviour.
It’s like they are starting to ply their trade locally. Sadly, many of these Africans are well known for their art in scamming and for them it is a full time job. The network of African scammers is large with extended links the world over. They have gotten more elaborate and organized these days. It would serve our nation and people better if the Government would just buy them ALL airline tickets and export them back to their country of origin. This headache has only just began and will get worse as time progresses. SEND THEM ALL BACK HOME PLEASE.
Hey this isn’t going anywhere. I just drove across Newgate Street and saw about 100 Africans outside St. John’s police station. Heard they were victims of another scam whereby an African that has been living here took their money and promised he can arrange a charter flight back to Africa . Since he was paid heard he disappeared . They complained and he is now arrested.
Could the scammer be the Nigerian who is employed at the Ministry of Argiculture that was part of the party who used a government vehicle to meet a “friend”?,).
The chief immigration officer claimed that the Nigerian was in attendance to meet “a friend”. I am sure he too played a part with those fraudsters being in Antigua.
Our immigration service is broken, corrupt and not fit for any purpose.
Gaston really f up big time with this fiasco. The longer ALP takes to addressed this situation the worse it will get, we will see fraudulent activities being carried out on a larger scale than where it is at now.
Back in the day and now it’s still happening it has nothing to do with African or Indian it’s just some human beings are wicked and would rob you blind even your family members brothers , sisters
Cousins, all relatives it’s just some people are vulnerable to be robbed and exploited from shady people so it’s just life . I hope they get back their money soon
Africans scamming Africans. Well. Well. Only under corrupt Gaston Browne. The ABLP has enabled this situation. More in the mortar than the pestle.
I believe the scammer is a resident African living here and not the new ones
Agreed, I believe the one that’s employed by the ministry of agriculture.
If we had an effective Immigration Services they would do additional checks on the gentleman background.
Just before election he had the balls to say on Observer Radio that Antigua is under-populated which ie why the Africans were brought here.
He is really cheeky, if we need to increase our population we could look to CARICOM and not a continent that is far from our region. I urge the Immigration Services to check him out as I am not convince that he is legal.
ALP should give me the job to vet them all, I would even offer my services on a voluntary basis.
The international community eyes are on Antigua, waiting to see how Browne resolved this madness the Brits have already told him that they are considering to stop visa free to the UK.
Browne, do the right thing get them out of Antigua acknowledge that Marvellous Mike has landed you in heap of dung.
This situation is really sad!! It’s not so easy to send them back to their country!! There is a lot on the international scale that has not been addressed. To return these people is to possibly send them back to their death. They have a lot of unrest in their countries! They were scammed into coming here so, Gaston, Chet, Cutie and all who agreed to Antigua Airways scheme (Not the Antiguan & Barbudan people) are responsible! This is a sore mark on Antigua!! The greedy ones who collaborated in that scheme have no idea what they’ve brought to Antigua! We don’t know what to expect but from how these people operate around the world, he’ll arh go bruk loose innah Antigua!! Wah sweet in goat mouth does sour in e bam bam! Me hoope de African scammers an dem dat go retaliate go arh Gaston an dem yard first!!! Are we go see!!
The claim of unrest are tissues of lies designed by Browne and his merry men. If they was any truth with what they are claim why did not claim at the point of entry, why Antigya when they could have gone neighbouring African countries?
If we allow ourselves to be complacent with Browne and their rhetoric we will live to regret it. Google: Nigerian fraudsters Trinidad and Tobago and you will be shocked by what you will read about them.
Congratulations you have just won 8000000 just send 1500us to claim your prize.
Corrections – The charter flight was not supposed to be back to no Africa but South America. ( this is one thing that they have been lying about). They are Hell bent on trying to get to the USA across the Mexican Borders. I was told by one of them that he scammer came on the first flight.
I think the government should put them up at the navy base instead of having people robbing them like this. Antiguans are also over charging these people. Instead of renting them a house. They are charging them by the head and as many of them that can hold are allowed.
What I am saying is that the government is no innocent bystander and playing ostrich will not let this go away. Allow them to obtain work permits and find legal employment. One of the reason why they are not getting gainful employment is that some employers are afraid to employ them and break the labor laws.
Several Antiguans must also be commended for reaching out and assisting their fellow brothers and sisters by providing- food , shelter and clothing. Some are brave enough to even employ them and are prepared to face the arms of the law , if they have to for this humanitarian act. Others are becoming hungry, destitute and desperate and may do anything for survival.
Again I am calling on the government to act quickly. If you had nothing to do with this you should assist as a simple human rights. Much less you are the ones for what ever unknown reason facilitated the process and probably even deeper into it If an investigation comes out. In fact an investigation into this matter is inevitable.
So those of you that are involved will have to face up and be published at some point and time.
Nonsense, they are not our mess. Antiguans are suffering too. The simple solution is send them, Antiguans can’t find work, why should they come and get work and free accommodation?
The government must provide jobs, housing, and work permit? When our CARICOM Nationals Jamaicans and Guyanese specifically came here we treat them as dogs and whild animals they had never gotten an opportunity to get such and even now some of them are still struggling with stigma attached to their country and now here you are saying government must provide all these? Pasen christen im Pitney fus.
I am not saying that they are not supposed to be working they’re not supposed to be living comfortable that’s not what I’m implying but if we are struggling in Antigua and Barbuda to survive nurses cannot afford to get a loan to own their own home or to purchase a piece of land but here you are government must provide for them government would have to provide for all the Nationals in the country before they can provide for those Africans we were told they are coming in as tourist so if antigens should go to America and having challenges to find place to live and to get integrated into America should the president provide such? The thing about it is we don’t know who we are and what we’re all about in this country we sit we accept all sort of stupidness and nonsense and that’s the problem the leaders we employed to work n keep us safe exposed us to all sorts of elements and we sit back n accept stupidness as in taking vitamins they don’t look out or care for us whatever goes for one person must go for all the CARICOM National had it difficult so why must they come and get it easy Guyanese n Jamaicans was unable to work without permit so how is it one is doing construction and the other on a garbage truck is he paying Social Security medical benefit and education level is that contractor is being arrested and charge is that African being arrested and charged for working illegal? You people minds are so twisted
It’s a free world
We pay attention on things we ought not to.
People are free to leave
No one came to this earth with a peace of land or what so ever.
The funny thing is “ Antigua’s pipo are origin of west Africa “ but they don’t even know where they came from
What a shame trying to depot these pipo
The fact of the matter is, international and local crimes were committed by persons in high places. Unfortunately our police ‘takes instructions’ so they will not be able to find the sun in the sky, much less expose the money laundering fraud, misappropriation of our CIP Funds, facilitating Human Trafficking, etc. Ni worries. It’s just a matter of time until we hear from international bodies. Can’t wait to see Gaston and Cutie in The Hague.
This just keep getting worse by the minute. Let’s see how Mr. Nicholas run with this one. Something has to be done. Quickly. The government is in this up to their eyeballs and will not be able to wiggle out of it without casualties. Antiguans and Barbudans are struggling with high cost of living, unreliable water and electricity, unemployment, inept Healthcare and on and on. We really cannot afford to burden tax payers with 600 plus Africans.
If they paid out 100,000 US,then maybe they are not as impoverished as they appear.
This mess keep getting bigger and bigger! While Gaston blowing kiss and swaggering. Come and clean up you mess boy!!!
Mek Gaston refund r u money back a nah he traffic r u here? What nonsense going on in this country. What a complete mess this is. God not sleeping.
