  1. This ABST fiasco shows that taxes in Antigua are too high and the regressive ABST is the worst. The ABST and all the other nuisance taxes need to go and we need a progressive personal and business income tax. Cost of living is too high 365; 4 days is nothing.

  2. Until you show where the money go, It should be 0%
The public is entitled to know what is being done with their money

    • I have a quick response:
Government workers are over 10% of the total population of Antigua, mean over 6000 peopleare in the payroll of the State..That is a ridiculous number for small country. We have los of Ministeries and lot of people being paid for do literally NOTHING. We are not talking about those that do some job “not with the best performance” but they do something..Im talking about those that do NOTHING at all the whole day and the whole year. Those drain the pipe..Doematter if ABLP, UPP or other party..They don’t plan to reduce the burocracy and the size of Government institutions.

  3. The attention seeking tactics of the PM has once again been successful. This whole ABST drama was clearly done to get a reaction out of the public and it was executed masterful. It’s was so obvious they would have had the tax reduction days. I can only imagine the comments section on his Facebook page and him having a real ki ki reading them

    • @Black…masterful my a…..This nonsense has been used since Lester Bird days. Some say it’s a technique brought from Guyana, where you play with people then try to come off as hero.
Any thinking person in Antigua and Barbuda could see this from a mile.
Another of those “mind bending” things that have been planted in our people’s psyche is, ” All politicians are the same”. That has destroyed this country and even sensible people fail to realize the manipulativeness of its use.

  4. This is the 3rd week of November and the Government usually announce this program in December but it looks like the media has an Agenda or just a need to make headlines.

  5. ABST reduction? Why not ABST free weekend? We are supposed to be the fast growing economy and that’s the best he can do? All this drama to offer us less than every body else. Gaston really know how to play with people’s feelings. Well well .

  6. Don’t blame Gaston! Blame the people who keep voting for ,this inept, corrupt unaccountable administration .

  7. We need a change of heart and a change of mind. This old time mockery is killing the people. First I do hope for a new administration that can find a way to eradicate monthly salaries to bi weekly salaries. In this ABST scenario, government workers as a majority will only be able to save 5% on the 22nd as they will not be paid in time for the prior 3 days of savings and having a reduced saving should show the people Red is Not Bread cause Bread prices are rising and salaries are not . Antigua and Barbuda I love you . Ask yourself do you love what you have in our country.

  8. Personally, I don’t care that much about the overcrowded ABST days. Ideally, everyone should be paid well enough that we can get everything we need all year long at an affordable price. The extra shopping at Christmas used to be to get decorations and items to celebrate the season not just to purchase any and everything on sale. What I miss is the way all the stores used to decorate themselves and have Christmas Carols playing, the streets had decorations and lights, and houses used to be decorated for the lighting competition. It truly felt like a celebration and storeowners made plenty without the tax reduction days because they made the effort to make their stores fun and inviting. It was fun to window shop and shop for the whole season, running into and greeting acquaintances from time to time not just on a couple of overcrowded days. Would love to see some more Christmas spirit for the whole season in town. Just my 2 cents.
