Workers at the Antigua and Barbuda Broadcasting Services (ABS) have been told to report to work, clock in and then leave the premises until further notice due to serious health and safety concerns at the state-owned media house.
The directive was issued by the Antigua Trades and Labour Union (AT&LU) after a shop steward alerted the union on Monday to worsening conditions inside the building, including visible mold and a strong odor. The situation reportedly escalated after weekend flooding, raising fears of contamination and health risks.
Union representatives conducted a walkthrough and have called for an air quality test to determine whether the facility is safe. The measure has disrupted normal operations and highlights the severity of the concerns.
Talks between union officials and ABS management are expected Tuesday, and the issue is slated for Cabinet discussion on Wednesday. Staff remain off-site pending the results of the air quality assessment and assurances that the workplace is safe.

That’s how things are in this Economic Power House real set of bullshitters running this country. All of them should be given the boot. St. Philip’s North just start the revolution on March 16. Your Constituency could usher inThe Dawn of A New Day. The Great Sir Rupert Philo (Swallow) would smile in his grave
Been happening too often in various departments of government. Government ministries and agencies should have their own Internal Occupational Health and Safety Officers to monitor standards, conduct risk assessments, and manage safety, including fire drills. Productivity falls drastically everytime workers have to go home because of poor working conditions. All government offices need a thorough check and assessment for these mold issues. This can really make employees sick.
Where is this building? Is it owned by the Government or leased from a private owner? Please let us know, soonest.
You all are not needed, not important to world boss Gaston, because berford will sing enough wonderful praises of Gaston.
And the government spending hundred of millions of dollars building roads like they crazy….And they say it with pride…we crazy…King Onion have a song, Crazy. APUA was instructed to give St Phillips North water 24/7…even if their is a massive leak don’t turn off the water…pure crazy… all over crazy crazy 😧😧😧
@Dion Pelle Two things can be true at the same time. The country desperately needs roads. Because of the ridiculous size of the government the country also needs and ridiculous number of buildings to house it. It seems that they don’t have enough money or there is some other reason why they can’t maintain either the roads or the buildings.
