ABLP St. John’s Rural East Branch Condemns Removal of Maria Browne Campaign Signs

12

The St. John’s Rural East Branch of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party has condemned the actions of a group of young men who were reportedly seen driving through the constituency in a white Toyota Vitz, wearing red ABLP shirts, while removing and interfering with campaign signs and posters of Hon. Maria Browne.

The branch described the behavior as unacceptable and unlawful, saying it runs contrary to the principles of fair and respectful campaigning. It said political expression, regardless of party affiliation, must be carried out with integrity and respect for the law.

The matter has been reported to police, and an investigation is underway. The branch said those responsible will be identified and held accountable.

It also urged the public to act responsibly and respect the democratic process, adding that there is no place in the country for that kind of conduct.

  1. ALP’s hypocrisy is on full display. They only suddenly care about torn-down signs when it’s their own being affected. Where was all this outrage when UPP posters were being ripped down across every constituency? Not a word. Not a single statement. Just silence.
Now they want to play victim? Spare us. The double standard is blatant and insulting to people paying attention. At this point, it wouldn’t shock anyone if they orchestrated the damage themselves just to push a narrative and cover up their complete silence when UPP was targeted.
People aren’t blind. The selective outrage says everything.

  2. What a conundrum Maria has found herself in. Her own people and in the Party colours at that destroying her campaign material, wonder how much they were paid. They can’t even trust each other. “Hope @ Visionary Is An Idiot” wasn’t one of them

  3. Back to the old tricks. These people are known vandals and are seeking people to blame. Nobody outside of the ALP in his right mind would ever think about doing such because we all know quite well that the Police would go to the end of the Earth to apprehend the perpetrator. If the UPP should ever win the next Elections, look out for cases of arson, power outages resulting from sabotage, bomb threats and reports of rapes. All those were prevalent during the 1970’s. They have all those arsenals at the ready whenever the odds are against them. They know how to enable disappearances too.

  4. As the time runs out, we must take heed of this blitz the ABLP is pushing. This blitz shouldn’t even be necessary—if they had been doing their jobs from the start, we wouldn’t need this rushed, intense effort now. When they rely on a blitz, it’s a sign of fear—big bulletin boards all over the streets of Antigua, splashed with their message. They’re trying to outspend, not outdo. This isn’t about more ads—it’s about doing the work. The roads should already be repaired; the water should already be flowing. And we should be able to get our visas, go about our lives, but instead, the CIP program has left us compromised. It didn’t help the little man—it just funneled money into their own circle, while we saw nothing. And don’t even get me started on the boat sale, with its enormous kickbacks. Let this be a wake-up call. Don’t fall for the mirage. This blitz is a desperate move—selfish, short-sighted—and if they really cared about the country, they would have performed from day one, giving the people a fair chance to choose. Instead, they called this election early—two and a half years ahead—showing their desperation, their self-interest. So, don’t be fooled—this is about them, not us. Let the people decide, and don’t drink the Kool-Aid. The blitz should never have been needed—because the job should have been done from the beginning.

  5. It funny how yall tear down Pringle shed a Old Road and nobody coulda say or do anything right. Ya’ll so unfair and funny in this place. The ALP can say as they like but as the UPP a talk a problem. That is a clear message that they dont want Maria Browne. Always remember actions speak louder than just words.

  8. It is funny how the “lady” could proceed to be dancing up in CHSS while the perimeter fence of that institution has been broken down for years. There has not been one single infrastructural development in rural east for the last ten years. Lester gave us JSC and Cort gave us the stadium in st. Johnson’s village. Nothing from this lady. Not even to maintain what is there already. So many businesses in this constituency and not even to approach these businesses to get a little donation to help erect the fence for the CHSS. She is a dismal failure to the core.

  9. Seeking sympathy while it’s the ALP that is tearing down posters, who else have the police under them control to take advantage of the law but ALP and Gaston, all them police man get pay off to look the other way.
