Gaston Browne said a safe and secure environment is essential for economic growth, telling supporters that Antigua and Barbuda ranks among “one of the safest places in the world.”

Addressing delegates at the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party convention after being returned unopposed as leader, Browne linked national security directly to the country’s economic performance. “You cannot grow an economy in an unsafe environment,” he said.

He credited law enforcement for maintaining stability, thanking members of the security services for their role in protecting the country. “At the end of the day… Antigua and Barbuda is one of the safest places in the world,” Browne said.

The ABLP leader framed security as a key pillar of his administration’s development strategy, arguing that sustained growth depends on maintaining stability and public confidence. He warned voters against any shift in leadership that could threaten those gains.

“Our people should not risk putting the governance of this country into incompetent hands,” Browne said, positioning the upcoming general election as a decision about preserving both economic progress and national security.

He also drew a contrast with political opponents, describing the electoral choice as one between “certainty and confusion” and “progress and paralysis.”

Browne urged party supporters to actively promote the government’s record in the campaign ahead, saying continued development depends on strong leadership and a secure national environment.

  1. You are not the safest when criminals point a gun and shoot you inside your house.

You are not the safest when you are beaten with a firearm (gun) inside your house.

You are not the safest when you are raped inside your house.

You are not the safest when there is burglary and robbery occurring nearly everyday.

You are not the safest when people in charge of you are saying your suffering means nothing because a one country or two out of many countries have 2 more crimes than the daily crimes you are suffering from in Antigua and Barbuda.

Your pain is your pain, it is your problems they should attempt to erase and not tell you to erase the pain in your mind by ignoring your pain.

You have all the signs of incompetence showing and I am here saying you must vote for the opposition, UPP, but you shouldn’t vote in Antigua and Barbuda, and in Bolans Village, for any person or political party (ABLP) who tells you to ignore your pain and suffering (victimization) and this message is coming from ABLP PM Gaston Browne who told a Bolans Villager he is not helping that villager with a basic idea/endeavor/organisation that would make you Bolans Villagers, tourist and the country in general safer.

I can not in good-faith tell you to vote for this, ABLP, political party. Especially a party with bloggers threatening me with robbery and murder. There is literally no justification for unlawful criminal activities.

Again, I am not encouraging you to vote UPP but I can’t encourage you to vote ABLP. I would be acting immorally, unethically and against your best interest to encourage you, especially my bolans villagers, to vote this ABLP.

We should help each other, especially when the help requested is not money, and not for employment but to simply request reasonable and timely administrative proceedings. That was all I requested to provide you with additional resources, donations, jobs, and a productive relationship with US government agencies (especially in criminal victimization for residents of the US visiting Antigua and Barbuda, and for Antiguans and Barbudans visiting the US).

Do you know if you are victimized while visiting a US state from qualifying crimes, in some states you can get as high as $120,000.00usd? Every US state and territory have this crime victim benefits.

The ABLP PM Gaston Browne said he is not willing to help to ensure you have access to such great benefits that cost him and the government nothing to ensure you have such access, even after you return home to Antigua and Barbuda. Even American tourist spending hundreds of millions in Antigua he is denying this to.

  2. “One of the safest places in the world” would be an exaggeration but one of the safest places in the Caribbean maybe more accurate when compared to the levels of crime elsewhere in the region.

This maybe a shock to many of you but Antigua’s crime level does not compare to what is currently going on in the Turks and Caicos (my other home away from home), the Bahamas, Grenada and Jamaica which the US State Dept. have issued Level 2 travel advisories (exercise increased caution due to crime). Not surprisingly, Trinidad and Guyana have Level 3 advisories (reconsider travel due to crime). Antigua’s travel advisory is listed as Level 1 (exercise normal precautions).

Elsewhere, the crime wave and murders that have affected St. Maarten and the British Virgin Islands over the last 12 months have become international headlines and you all know what is behind that.

It’s the election season and political propaganda always stretches the truth but while everyone would like to see a decrease in crime and a more competent police force in Antigua, crime here could be far worse.
