Browne Urges ‘Renaissance’ Vote as Energetic Crowd Backs Kiz Johnson in St. Philip’s South
Music, chanting and a sea of red set the tone as Gaston Browne took the stage at a lively campaign event in St. Philip’s South, urging residents to back ABLP candidate Kiz Johnson in the April 30 general election.
Supporters waved flags, raised their fingers in unison and repeatedly chanted the candidate’s name, creating a rally atmosphere that blended party slogans with dancehall rhythms and call-and-response exchanges between speakers and the crowd.

Browne framed the election as a continuation of what he described as a national “renaissance,” telling supporters, “This is the renaissance… a new era of progress and development,” as he pointed to government initiatives in education, healthcare and housing.
He highlighted access to tertiary education as a major achievement, noting that Antiguans and Barbudans will soon be able to pursue legal studies locally. “From September this year, you can go right to Five Islands… before time, you had to go to Europe… spend tens of thousands of dollars,” he said.
Browne also touted housing and social support programmes, telling the crowd his administration has worked to improve living standards through home construction and assistance initiatives. “No other administration has done more… we will improve your living standards,” he said.
Turning to the candidate, Browne urged voters to elect Johnson as part of a push for greater female representation in Parliament. “Our Parliament is in need of more female representatives… let’s send another female to Parliament, another competent female who can represent you, who can defend you,” he said.
He described Johnson as a “homegrown talent” with deep roots in the constituency, adding that she was “someone you nurtured… someone who is dedicated to your empowerment.”
Johnson, addressing the crowd briefly, struck an energetic tone, declaring, “I am ready to serve the people… effective representation, proper representation,” as supporters cheered and echoed her call for victory on election day.
Throughout the evening, speakers and performers kept the momentum high, with repeated chants of “Kiz Johnson all the way” and promises of jobs, infrastructure upgrades and expanded opportunities under another ABLP term.
Browne closed by appealing to voters across political lines, saying the party remained inclusive while urging full support for Johnson. “It doesn’t matter your political persuasion… I am calling on each of you to support Kiz Johnson,” he said.
The event forms part of a wider push by the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party to consolidate support ahead of the upcoming polls, with St. Philip’s South emerging as a key battleground constituency.

Oh yes 🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩
It’s astonishing to see that the ABLP just keeps missing the mark. They keep doing things that make absolutely no sense. Yes, they pave a nice road, but look at the homes—they’re falling apart. We need affordable concrete homes, not just fancy roads. And while we have 15 days of hard work for appearances—like when the dignitaries came—they just scratch the surface. We need a real system overhaul: better healthcare, a cancer treatment center that isn’t run by people with conflicts of interest. And don’t even get me started on the cost of living—duties that just keep rising, cars that cost 40% more, and still no proper roads. Meanwhile, we still have no steady water flow. And all this while we see broken glass at bus stops and no trash bins. This is not vision; this is just holding us back. Even buildings we inherited fall apart, and we pay rent to keep them up. Gaston Brown is not running this country properly; he thinks it’s a dolly house. Just because we see a hundred posters doesn’t mean he’s doing a good job. People know—we see the mansion, the scandals, and we vote with all that in mind. It’s time for change. We’ve had enough.

“Personnel from the Emergency Medical Services were there attending to Ms. Barthley. There was blood on her neck. The detectives spoke with Bowen. He handed over to Sergeant Edwards a black Pietro Beretta .25 pistol which contained 8 rounds of ammunition. The police recovered a spent shell and other items from the scene of the incident. Bowen was detained. He was later arrested and charged with wounding Ms. Barthley. The charge was upgraded to MURDER when she later died.”
“Keith Joseph said in evidence that on 16th December 2003, he conversed with Bowen outside of Bowen’s office for about 45 minutes. He then went to Joe Mike’s and, on leaving, he was about to open the door of his car when Bowen called him by telephone and informed him that “the lady get shot”. He returned to Bowen’s office and saw Ms. Barthley lying motionless on the ground outside. Bowen told him that she attacked him, choked him with his tie and bit his finger and she got shot. In cross-examination, after he refreshed his memory from his statement, Joseph said that he had told the police that Bowen told him (Joseph) that he (Bowen) tried to hit Ms. Barthley with the gun butt and the gun fired.”
Do really want to call names.. just know that a a few of the ABLP CANDIDATES WOULD BE IN JAIL FOR THERE DOINGS…. We have reached a breaking point with this government. It is absolutely sickening that in Antigua, we pay 40% on licensing old vehicles—just because they’re SUVs. It makes no sense at all to treat them all the same, especially when you cross a border. It should be based on the age of the vehicle, not just a flat rate. This is a government with no heart for poor people who are struggling just to get by. And they say we’re moving forward with the ABLP—certainly not. What they’re doing now is just handing out scraps, trying to distract us, but they have failed miserably. Just look at the roads—they’re a joke. They can’t even get it right—drawing a brand new white line on an old, broken road. This is the insanity we live in—this is the government we’re told is doing such a great job. But it’s all short-sighted. They think we don’t deserve better. They give us a patch of road that doesn’t even line up with the other side. And all those cars—they just swept them under the rug. Gaston says we should move on—says he fixed it—like we’re supposed to just forget it. But we won’t. Antiguans love handouts, and it goes all the way down—from the top to the people they run over. It’s all about money, and Gaston, you will see—money will fade. One day, when all this collapses, people will realize money was what held your party together. And when they said yes, they really meant no.
Shame on Malaka “Fired” Parker and Pearl “FOOTS” Quinn for running on the UPP ticket alongside a coward who snuffed out the life of a young woman and her fetus. Where is P.O.W.A to march in protest?
