Antigua Celebrates Over 1,200 New Homes Built Since 2014
The government of Antigua and Barbuda has marked a significant milestone in housing development, with over 1,200 new homes constructed since its election in 2014.
Highlighted in the Throne Speech delivered by Governor General Sir Rodney Williams, this achievement reflects the efforts of the National Housing and Urban Renewal Corporation to meet the growing demand for affordable housing among families and young couples.
“My government takes note of the increase in homeownership that has taken place since 2014 when it was elected to serve,” the Governor General stated, commending the corporation’s accomplishments despite resource constraints.
He added, “While the company’s record of performance in housing cannot be assailed, it has had to divert its resources to repairing unsuitable buildings in which employees of the government work.”
This balancing act between building new homes and refurbishing government properties has been described as a “monumental task,” yielding tangible benefits for citizens.
The government credits the decision-makers for expertly managing priorities in housing and public building renovations within available financial resources.
The Throne Speech also highlighted the broader economic impact of increased homeownership, emphasizing its role in strengthening families and communities.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the housing needs of Antigua and Barbuda as part of its vision for national development.

Never forget my fellow critical thinking Antiguans, your eyes do not deceive you, but FALSE governmental rhetoric will.
Walk around where you live, ride on a bike or bus and just as importantly, drive across the country your eyesight will REVEAL the truth and nothing but the truth.
Brixtonian as always cutting through the verbal bulldust from ABLP Minister’s.
However, if Antiguans were allowed to visit and venture into the abodes of these Minister’s, we would witness plenty plenty progress and developments.
Antigua & Barbuda 🇦🇬 should progress in the same said manner. Simple!
THEN OUR EYES WOULDN’T DECEIVE US …

Ok now let’s think for a sec if the government decided to start a housing project for homeless, where they get somewhere to live for free no rent to pay now how would they pay for water and light how would they buy food huh 🤔 things are easier said than done
Oooooh please they have their ppl for these houses. The government system to get a house is a full of crock chupzzzzzz……. Remember we all came to this earth with nothing and we all will die with nothing ….
We were supposed to have 500 homes in 500 days now we have over 1200 crappy homes in 3 terms with owners complaining about the poor construction and can’t get any redress
Unfortunately the low income home owners are not benefiting. The prices are too high and persons who can afford them own houses already and are using them as real estate.
That’s good to hear 1200 homes built, but Antiguans should be first and only, because going to some of chapa housing there is a lot of foreigner given houses leaving Antiguans behind.
One issue is that no one is building affordable good rental housing for locals these days. Most rentals are being built to try to attract rich foreigners. So, locals renters are being faced with having to pay huge sums and can no longer save up the deposit to purchase a home of their own. The only cheap rentals are dilapidated old buildings in iffy parts of neighbourhoods. So, even if a cheap rental is occasionally found it comes with a host of problems to have to live with while saving up for a home. Perhaps the government could look into zoning certain areas for construction of housing for locals to rent and prohibit persons from charging too much in those area.
