Chet Greene Reaffirms Support for PM Browne, Addresses Leadership Challenge Rumors

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Barbuda Affairs, E.P. Chet Greene, has responded to a letter to the editor that speculated on internal conflict within the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) and suggested that he intended to challenge Prime Minister Gaston Browne for party leadership.

In his reponse, Greene he strongly emphasized the unity of the ABLP and his solid support for Browne.

In his statement, Greene declared, “The ABLP remains united, focused, and committed to the assignment of building a prosperous society.” He also praised Prime Minister Browne’s leadership, stating, “We are united solidly under the leadership of our political leader, Hon. Gaston Browne, and all identify with his outstanding leadership of the ship of state.”

The author of the letter suggested that WTP Radio station and the recent weekly newspaper were efforts by Greene to secure support.

Greene further clarified his role as the Member of Parliament for St. Paul’s, addressing concerns over his involvement with a community radio station (WTP Media) and a weekly newspaper (St. Paul’s Weekly News).

He explained that these platforms were communication tools designed to maintain close contact with his constituents and should not be misunderstood or misrepresented.

“They both represent progressive leadership at the constituency level,” he said.

Although Greene did not explicitly deny the claim that he is preparing to challenge Prime Minister Browne, he advised those trying to create division to focus on their own affairs.

“I know misery loves company, but I advise that you keep your UPP confusion to yourselves and watch us lead this country and its people to resilience.”

Greene’s response reiterates his strong support for the Prime Minister and the unity within the ABLP.

  1. We hear you Chet baby.

However, the rumour mill was actually started by disgruntled ABLP members, because word spread that half-a-dozen or so of the long time members were fed-up to the back teeth, at how Prime Minister Gaston Browne was fast-tracking former UPP members to high position in the ABLP, and making promises to other “high profile” UPP targets as well.

THE NEWS IS RIFE WHERE I LIVE BOSS!

Something you failed to address here. Why?

How strange of you Chet, how strange …

  2. Chet had no choice but to denounce the report because he knows Gaston so very well. The last time he tried to be relevant in Parliament, Gaston lashed out and let him know not to second guess. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was told to write that piece or it was even dictated to him. Anyway, Odebretch is inching closer to home; the former Peruvian P.M. has taken residence in a brand new facility. Every time it seems like nothing is happening, a new development sudden emerges and we can certain that something is definitely going to happen here, wait for it.

  3. @Brixtonian: No, in their desperation, the UPP are throwing out more disinformation as yet another distraction from their own internal civil war. This is straight out of the disinformation playbook. Dirty tricks 101: A beginners guide. It’s nothing new and is easily squashed like a troublesome mosquito.

If only the infamous Antigua rumour mill (aka the BS factory) could generate electricity or something actually useful…

  4. Chairman of the ABLP is right. There are a number of reasons why the UPP finds itself where it’s at right now. The ABLP should never try to emulate whatever is going on over there. That party has moved from being on the cusp of defeating the ABLP in the general elections to self preservation and confusion. No organization in their right mind would want to emulate that.

  5. Let’s see shall we @ABLP Hostage. Let’s see.

Funny isn’t it that when you ABLP plumbs 🫐 mentions anything untoward against the UPP it is FACTUAL, but when it’s the government having internal issues as well it’s not.

    How myopic and one-sided!

Never forget @ ABLP Hostage these wise Caribbean words:

“Never back ah jackass in a horse race …”

Oh, BTW, you are also welcomed to change your alliance from the descending ABLP to the ascending UPP 😉

  6. Chet they may sound like rumors to you but they’re the truth in the breakout sessions during Executive meetings. Especially with the impending return of our cash cow Asot to the Executive.
R we dun kno dat U fraid Gaston.

  7. To paraphrase the good lady Joanne Massiah….ABLP has perfected the kum-bah-yah…..they know how to kiss and make up and heal after any conflict. The UPP on the other hand will shoot, stab and kill their own and leave them for dead

  8. And whilst our pickney head people cuss, criticize be and degrade their own, the other races of people are moving ahead with the eventual ownership of Antigua and Barbuda.
If you leave a party, why not just move on?
The UPP came so so so close to winning the last election ( maybe did win it), gained so many seats, under the same leadership. Before you people come together, you all are infighting. A long dutty suck teeth. Dr. Baldwin rallied for so long. Brother Pringle has been holding the fort single handedly for so long. Now this nonsense. The black man crab in a barrel mentality.
Take a look at the communities where black people live. DERELICT. Look at the schools mostly populated by black students. What do you see and get?
43 years of independence and the black man is relegated to selling under tents by the roadside.
Name one business owned by a Blackman in st. John and I will name twenty owned by others.
Where are all the social programs for the descendants of slaves Antiguans?
Who owns half of the little islands off our shores?
Whose food do our people consume daily?
Do many black workers are owed and not paid.
All of the people cussing out upp members, are I am sure, Antiguans. Why? Not foreigners, or ‘other’ races. Your own people.
I don’t hear the other races of people, who are benefitting from everything in Antigua, on the airwaves and media, cussing out their own. As a matter of fact, who do you think join together and import goods? And the list goes on.
    What a shame and disgrace.

  9. BRIXTONIAN YOUR CREDIBILITY SHOT, NOW YOU START TELLING LIES. THIS IS A SIGN OF DESPERATION. YOU WERE SO CONDESCENDING. NOW YOUR JUST A SOUR UPP SUPPORTER SINCE YOU HAVE TO ACCEPT DUMP PRINGLE AS YOUR LEADER. LOL
