The United Progressive Party (UPP) is urging the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) to be vigilant about voter transfers into St. Mary’s South in order to prevent any fraud or hanky panky taking place in the upcoming by-election.
Pearl Quinn-Williams, caretaker for Rural North, says the Party will be monitoring this poll very closely.
This is in light of Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s admission that persons were transferred from St. John’s City West, into other constituencies, to boost his colleagues’ chances in the January 18 General Election.
Quinn-Williams says that such manipulation will not be allowed to happen again, since the eyes of the Party will be focused on the Register for Elections and on ABEC, itself.
The people of St. Mary’s South should be the ones to determine which candidate they want to represent them, and to select that person in a fair and transparent manner – rather than live with a decision that was based on cheating – Quinn-Williams says. (REAL NEWS)
